ERIE, Pa. – The Saint Vincent College and Westminster College women were crowned co-champions at the 2012 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Tennis Championships Saturday afternoon at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.

Saint Vincent and Westminster each finished with 49 points at the conference’s 28th annual women’s tennis championship, with both squads having a pair of individuals win singles titles and one doubles pairing secure a conference championship.

Saint Vincent has earned the PAC’s automatic qualifying bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship, which will be hosted by Kalamazoo College May 20-25, because they recorded a 6-3 head-to-head match victory over Westminster on October 12.

Saint Vincent saw top-seeded Jessica McKetta (Acme, Pa. / Mt. Pleasant) post a 6-2, 6-0 win over third-seeded Christine Bullock (Wrentham, Mass. / King Philip Regional) of Geneva College in the fifth singles championship and top-seeded Kylie Auman (St. Mary’s, Pa. / Elk County Catholic) secure a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the sixth singles championship over second-seeded Beth Ekimoff (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) of Westminster, while the top-seeded tandem of McKetta and Auman earned a 9-7 win over second-seeded Jane Larson ( Warren, Pa. / Warren) and Ekimoff in the third doubles title match.  

Westminster had second-seed Caitlin Hosler (Lititz, Pa. / Manheim Central) record a 6-1, 6-0 win over top-seeded Shayla Landman (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mt. Pleasant) of Saint Vincent in the second singles title match and top-seeded Heather Santa (Butler, Pa. / Butler) post a 6-3, 6-1 victory over second-seeded Jacquelyn Hauser (Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) of Saint Vincent in the fourth singles championship match, while the pairing of Hosler and Alex Bailey (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) earned a walkover win in the first doubles championship match against Saint Vincent’s Amanda Gans (Upper St. Clair, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) and Landman.

Grove City College finished third at the event, finishing with 34 points. The Wolverines’ third-place finish snaps a 25-year run of consecutive conference titles won.

Grove City's Caroline McGuire (Shorewood, Wis. / Dominican) was named the 2012 PAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year after going 3-0 at the championships. McGuire, who entered the tournament as the third seed in the first singles flight, posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over top-seeded Gans of Saint Vincent in the number one singles title match.

Top-seeded Karolina Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Homeschooled) secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over second-seeded Larson of Westminster in the third singles championship. Lagerquist and Kendra Tetrick (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver), who entered the tournament as the top seeded pair at second doubles, earned a 9-7 win in the title match against Westminster's Santa and Lauren Fling (Norton, Ohio / Norton).

Geneva College (19) and Waynesburg University (19) finished tied for fourth while Washington & Jefferson College (11) finished sixth and Chatham University (10) was seventh. Thomas More College (8) finished in eighth place followed by Bethany College (4) and Thiel College (4), who tied for ninth.

2012 PAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year honors went to Saint Vincent first-year head coach Chris McMahon. McMahon and the Bearcats finished the 2012 regular season 14-0 overall and 9-0 in PAC matches.

Geneva was selected as the conference's sportsmanship award winner during the awards ceremony that followed the conference championship.
