Waynesburg Crowned 2013 PAC Wrestling Champions

GREENVILLE, Pa.  – The Waynesburg University wrestling program captured the 2013 team title at the 54th Annual Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Wrestling Championships Friday evening at Thiel College’s Beeghly Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets totaled 116 points and watched four of its wrestlers finish as champions at their respective weight classes. The Yellow Jackets were followed by 2012 conference champion Thiel in second place with 106 points and Washington & Jefferson College in third place with 67 points.

Waynesburg junior Anthony Bonaventura was selected by the PAC head wrestling coaches as the conference’s Most Outstanding Wrestler after his 174 pound championship round 7-6 decision over Thiel sophomore Jerrold Roosa locked up the team title for the Yellow Jackets. The individual conference title was Bonaventura’s first of his career.

Yellow Jacket senior Alex Crown cruised to his fourth individual PAC title, earning the honor with his 5-2 decision over W&J freshman Bryant Myers at 133 pounds. Crown had won his previous three championships at the 125 pound weight class.

Waynesburg fifth-year head coach Ron Headlee was named the PAC Coach of the Year for helping the Yellow Jackets reclaim the league championship. Waynesburg captured PAC team titles in 2010 and 2011.
