Thomas More claims top spot on PAC baseball preseason poll

GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) released the results of the 2015 PAC Preseason Baseball Coaches’ Poll, along with its Players to Watch list, on Thursday. Thomas More College and 15th-year head coach Jeff Hetzer were picked as the preseason favorite to claim this year's championship tournament title.

The PAC also released its 60th anniversary baseball team on Thursday.

The annual preseason poll collects votes from each of the league's nine head coaches.

Thomas More, winner of last season's championship tournament, totaled four first-place votes and 74 points. The Saints finished the 2014 season 25-19 and won the program's third PAC Championship Tournament title. They were regional semifinalists at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional in Marietta, Ohio.

Washington & Jefferson College, the 2014 regular-season league champion, collected three first-place votes and 71 points to finish second. Bethany College and Waynesburg University tied for third with 52 points each. Waynesburg also received one first-place vote.

Thiel College College was picked fifth, totaling 48 points and receiving the final first-place vote. Saint Vincent College was picked sixth (45), Geneva College seventh (23), Grove City College eighth (21) and Westminster College ninth (19).

The 2015 PAC Championship Tournament is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9. The top seed coming out of the regular season will host the league's four-team, double-elimination tournament.
