PAC honors women's basketball all-conference teams, award winners

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (pacathletics.org) – The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) announced its 2016-17 All-PAC Women’s Basketball teams and yearly award winners between championship tournament semifinal games Friday evening at top-seeded Thomas More College's Connor Convocation Center.

The all-conference teams, as well as the PAC's yearly award winners, are determined, by vote, of the league’s 10 head coaches.

Thomas More junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky. | Simon Kenton) was voted the league’s Player of the Year. She currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game. She also ranks third in steals (63), fifth in assists (88) and eighth in made three-pointers (48). Owings also sports a 2.26 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks 19th among all NCAA Division III counterparts.

Owings is a two-time All-PAC First Team selection.

PAC Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Grove City College junior guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa. | Mercer). She ranks fifth in Division III in steals (106) and 19th in both scoring average (21.0) and field goals made (199) while leading the PAC in steals and scoring. Arkwright is also fifth in the league in free throw percentage (84.3%), eighth in blocked shots (30) and 12th in rebounds per game (6.7).

Arkwright was named an All-PAC Honorable Mention in 2016. 

Westminster first-year forward Emily Fromknecht (Erie, Pa. | McDowell) collected the PAC’s Freshman of the Year award. She ranks 17th in the circuit in scoring average (11.1), seventh in blocked shots per game (1.2) and eighth in rebounds per game (7.6).

Fromknecht is Westminster’s first Freshman of the Year selection since Desiree Sterling in 2004.

Geneva College seventh-year head coach Lori Wynn, interim associate head coach Patience Baker and assistant coach Kendall Hunter were collectively selected as the PAC’s Coach of the Year. Coach Wynn, diagnosed with ovarian cancer last summer, was forced to step away from her program while undergoing rounds of chemotherapy. Coach Baker, along with Coach Hunter, managed the team throughout the season in Coach Wynn’s absence.  

Geneva was recognized as the PAC's Team Sportsmanship Award winner for the fifth-straight season.
