GROVE CITY FALLS AT NCAA REGIONAL; W&J DIAMONDMEN ADVANCE IN ECAC TOURNAMENT
PAC baseball teams went 1-1 in postseason competition on Wednesday, May 14. The PAC champion Grove City Wolverines opened the 2008 NCAA Division III Baseball Regional in Ithaca, N.Y., with a 10-1 loss to top-seeded Cortland State. GCC will now face Eastern Connecticut State in a loser's bracket game on Thursday (May 15) at 10 a.m. In other postseason action, Washington & Jefferson advanced to the semifinal round of the ECAC Division III South Region Tournament following a 9-2 home win over Pitt-Bradford. The Presidents now advance to face top-seeded Alvernia College in Reading, Pa., this Friday (May 16) at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to the ECAC South title game Saturday at 10 a.m. W&J is the two-time defending ECAC D-III Soouth baseball champion.

2008 ALL-PAC BASEBALL TEAMS NOW ONLINE
The 2008 All-PAC Baseball teams and postseason award winners were announced on Monday, May 14. Grove City College swept the top honors, as Wolverine senior OF Brian Moran was named PAC Most Valuable Player while veteran GCC mentor Rob Skaricich was named PAC Coach of the Year.

GROVE CITY SENT TO ITHACA FOR NCAA D-III TOURNEY; GCC OPENS VS. CORTLAND STATE
The 2008 PAC champion Grove City baseball team will be the eighth seed in the New York region of the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament, hosted this week by Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y. The Wolverines (18-16) will open the eight-team, double-elimination tournament on Wednesday (May 14) against top-seeded Cortland State at 1:15 p.m.

W&J EARNS FOURTH STRAIGHT ECAC BID
For the fourth consecutive season, Washington & Jefferson College been selected to participate in the ECAC Division III Southern Baseball Championship Tournament. The Presidents (22-16-1) are the five-team tournament’s No. 4 seed and will host an opening-round contest on Wednesday. Fifth-seeded Pitt-Bradford (23-20) comes to W&J’s Ross Memorial Park for the game which is set to begin at 3:00 pm.

GROVE CITY OUTLASTS THIEL 11-10 IN 2008 PAC TITLE GAME; WOLVERINES EARN AUTOMATIC BID
The second and final day of the 2008 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Baseball Championship Tournament on May 10 saw three thrilling finishes, culminating in fourth-seeded Grove City Wolverines capturing the title and the conference's first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. All games took place at Marge Schott Stadium at the University of Cincinnati, due to Thomas More's on-campus graduation ceremonies. The Wolverines opened the day by edging third seed Thiel 4-3 in the winner's bracket final. The Tomcats rallied following the loss, eliminating top-seeded host Thomas More with a 10-7 win on a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth, setting up a rematch with GCC for the PAC crown. In a back-and-forth affair, the Wolverines closed out the title with a thrilling 11-10 victory, giving Grove City its first PAC baseball title since winning back-to-back championships in 2001 and 2002.

THIEL DUO NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Thiel College junior outfielders David Nypaver and Dan Morrison were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Baseball First Team, selected by The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), on May 8.  Both will now advance to the Academic All-America national ballot.

GENEVA'S SUMNER NAMED PAC SAAC MALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH FOR 4/08
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference has named junior baseball standout Derek Sumner of Geneva College as its PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for April, 2008.

THOMAS MORE EARNS TOP SEED, HOSTING RIGHTS FOR 2008 PAC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
Thomas More College has earned the top seed and hosting rights for the 2008 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Baseball Championship Tournament, which will take place in Crestview Hills, Ky., on Thursday-Saturday, May 8-10, 2008.

GROVE CITY'S MORAN NAMED PAC SAAC MEN'S SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH FOR 3/08
The PAC has named senior baseball standout Brian Moran of Grove City College as its PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month, for March, 2008.

FOUR SAINTS NAMED TO 2008 COLLEGIATE BASEBALL PRESEASON WATCH LIST
Thomas More seniors Pat Berndsen, Marc Price and Brad Ketterer along with sophomore Chris Fishburn were named to the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Watch List for 2008. The Saints finished 26-11 last season and open the 2008 schedule in Port Charlotte, Florida in early March against Division II Lewis.

NCAA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO W&J'S MANN
Washington & Jefferson College All-American pitcher Sam Mann was awarded a $7,500 postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA on June 26. Mann, who graduated as a political science and history double major, was one of 58 student-athletes (29 male, 29 female) from all NCAA divisions to earn the scholarship for the spring season.

W&J'S MANN NAMED MIDEAST REGION POY
The postseason honors continued to pile up for Washington & Jefferson College senior pitcher/first baseman Sam Mann on May 31 as he was announced as the American Baseball Coaches Association/ Rawlings Mideast Region Player of the Year.

NINE NAMED TO ABCA ALL-REGION TEAMS
A total of nine PAC baseball standouts have been named to the 2007 NCAA Division III Rawlings/ABCA All-Mideast Region teams, released on May 23. Leading the way for the conference were first team selections P/1B Sam Mann of Washington & Jefferson as a utility player and Thomas More junior DH Brad Ketterer. Second team selections were Bethany C Brent Owens, Thiel C Andrew Howard, W&J 3B Shaun Pfeil, Grove City OF Brian Moran, and Thiel P Eric Wadowsky. W&J SS Nick Fiorilli and Thomas More P Brett Walter round out the honorees as third team selections.

MANN NAMED D3BASEBALL.COM ALL-AMERICAN
Washington & Jefferson senior baseball standout Sam Mann, the 2007 PAC Player of the Year, was named to the 2007 D3Baseball.com All-America honorable mention team on May 22. Mann led the Presidents to the PAC title by hitting .468 with four home runs and 34 RBIs, while posting a pitching mark of 7-4 with a 1.97 ERA and 59 strikeouts with only five walks.

W&J FALLS TO KEYSTONE IN ECAC TITLE GAME
The 2007 PAC Champion Washington & Jefferson College baseball team saw its season come to an end on May 18, after finishing in second place at the ECAC Division III South Region Tournament. The Presidents (32-12) opened the tournament with a 4-2 first round win over Wesley before falling to host Keystone 3-1 in the title contest.

2007 ALL-PAC BASEBALL TEAMS RELEASED
The 2007 All-PAC Baseball Teams were released on May 14. Conference Player of the Year honors went to Washington & Jefferson senior P/1B Sam Mann, while W&J's Jeff Mountain was tabbed the 2007 PAC Coach of the Year.

MITKO PITCHING GEM LIFTS W&J TO SECOND STRAIGHT PAC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Senior P Ron Mitko fired a complete game two-hit shutout to lift top seed Washington & Jefferson to a 6-0 victory over third seed Thiel in the championship game of the 2007 PAC Baseball Championship Tournament on May 12 in Washington, Pa. The win marked the second consecutive PAC baseball title for the Presidents of fifth-year head coach Jeff Mountain. Earlier in the day, the Tomcats had forced a decisive third and final matchup between the two teams in the tournament with a 6-4 decision over the Presidents. W&J will now wait until late Sunday night to find out if they have been selected to the 2007 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
 



Grove City captured its first PAC baseball title since 2002 and the first-ever PAC automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with an 11-10 win over Thiel in the championship game.
