Thomas More won a pair from top-seeded Washington & Jefferson on Championship Saturday to claim its first PAC baseball title.


TMC'S FISHBURN EARNS NCAA SCHOLARSHIP (6/29/10)
Recent Thomas More College graduate Chris Fishburn has been named a recipient of the NCAA Spring Postgraduate Scholarship.  He is just one of 29 male scholar-athletes across all three NCAA Divisions to receive this honor. Fishburn will be awarded a $7,500 scholarship to be used towards graduate school expenses next year at the University of Cincinnati.

FIVE PAC DIAMONDMEN NAMED ECAC ALL-STARS (6/4/10)
Five PAC baseball standouts have been named to the 2010 ECAC Division III South Region Baseball All-Star teams. Washington & Jefferson led the way with three honorees, including both conference first teamers in 1B Frank Quirin and OF Jim Pasquine. W&J 3B Mike Kennedy was an ECAC second team selection and was joined by Grove City junior C Marcus Magister and Bethany senior DH Chris Leasure.

PAC TRIO RAKE IN POST-SEASON RECOGNITION (5/26/10)
Several organizations have recognized three PAC baseball players for their accomplishments this past season. D3Baseball.com announced its 2010 All-America Team, naming Thomas More P Paul Uhl to the second team and Bethany's Brad Kubis to the third team as a utility player. Uhl also earned Mideast Regional Co-Pitcher of the Year honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Rounding out the the honors was Washington & Jefferson 1B Frank Quirin who was named to the Rawlings/ABCA All-Mideast Regional Gold Glove Team. With the recognition, he will now be placed on the ballot for the National Gold Glove Team.

PAC TRIO NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS (5/25/10)
The PAC has placed three players on the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America baseball teams, released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Leading the way was Thomas More senior 2B Chris Fishburn, who was a first team selection as an infielder. Fishburn, a third- team AAA honoree in 2009, earned All-PAC First Team honors while posting a .396 grade-point average (GPA majoring in soports entertainment and marketing. W&J junior P Pat Kennedy (3.94 GPA, chemistry) was a second team honoree, while Thomas More senior OF Marty Kersting (3.72 GPA, accounting) earned third team laurels.

NINE FROM PAC NAMED 2010 NBCA ALL-REGION (5/25/10)
Nine PAC baseball standouts have been selected to the 2010 National Baseball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-Mideast Region teams. 2010 PAC Player of the Year Jim Pasquine of Washington & Jefferson was named to the first team as a utility player, where he was joined by 2010 PAC Pitcher of the Year Paul Uhl of Thomas More. Second team honors went to the TMC duo of 2B Chris Fishburn and OF Marty Kersting of Thomas More, along with W&J 1B Frank Quirin. Third team laurels went to Grove City C Marcus Magister, Waynesburg 2B Wes White Jr., and the W&J duo of SS Joe Bogdewiecz and OF Neil Pascarella.

BETHANY FALLS AT #1 WESLEY IN ECAC TOURNEY (5/22/10)
The Bethany Bison baseball team saw its 2010 season come to an end on Saturday, as the fourth-seeded Bison were eliminated from the ECAC Division III South Region Tournament following a 12-2 loss at top-seeded Wesley University in Dover, Del.

TMC, W&J EACH ELIMINATED FROM REGIONAL (5/21/10)
The Thomas More and Washington & Jefferson baseball teams each saw their seasons come to an end at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Tournament at Marietta, Ohio this week. Thursday, the Saints suffered a 7-6 setback to Penn State-Behrend. After rallying for an 8-5 win over Adrian Friday morning, TMC was eliminated Friday night by the host Pioneers 16-4. W&J was eliminated on Thursday following an 11-1 loss to Marietta.

BETHANY ADVANCES IN ECAC SOUTH TOURNEY (5/20/10)
The Bethany baseball team posted a 7-6 walk-off win over Penn State-Altoona today in the ECAC Division III South Region Tournament first round. The fourth-seeded Bison now advance to the tournament semifinals at #1 Wesley on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

TMC, W&J SPLIT EXTRA-INNING AFFAIRS IN NCAA MIDEAST REGIONAL; GCC FALLS IN ECAC FIRST ROUND (5/19/10)
The baseball postseason got underway with a bang on Wednesday, as three of the PAC's four playoff teams were in action. Both PAC champion Thomas More and PAC runner-up Washington & Jefferson went to extra innings in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Tounament at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. The sixth-seeded Saints upset the third-seeded host Pioneers 4-3 in 10 innings, while #4 W&J dropped a heartbreaking 9-7 decision in 10 innings to #5 Adrian. TMC is back in action Thursday against Penn State-Behrend game at 1 p.m., while the Presidents will face either Wooster or Marietta at 4:30 p.m. In other postseason action, Grove City's stay in the ECAC Division III South Tournament was a short one, as the third-seeded Wolverines were upset 8-6 by sixth-seeded La Roche. Bethany, the #4 seed in the ECAC bracket, had its game with #5 Penn State-Altoona postponed to Thursday.

2010 ALL-PAC BASEBALL TEAMS RELEASED (5/18/10)
The 2010 All-PAC baseball teams have been released. Conference MVP honors went to W&J senior OF/P Jim Pasquine for the second consecutive year. Thomas More sophomore P Paul Uhl was tabbed as PAC Pitcher of the Year, while veteran Bethany head coach Rick Carver garnered PAC Coach of the Year laurels.

TMC, W&J TABBED FOR NCAA D-III REGIONAL (5/17/10)
For the first time in conference history, two PAC baseball teams will represent the conference in the NCAA Division III Championship playoffs in the same year. 2010 PAC champion Thomas More and PAC runner-up Washington & Jefferson were each selected to compete in the seven-team NCAA D-III Baseball Regional at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio May 19-23. Thomas More is the sixth seed and will open against the third-seeded host Pioneers Wednesday at 1 p.m., while the Presidents are the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Adrian at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament.

THOMAS MORE CAPTURES FIRST-EVER PAC TITLE (5/15/10)
Thomas More captured its first-ever PAC baseball title with a pair of dramatic wins over top-seeded Washington & Jefferson at W&J's Ross Memorial Park Saturday. The Saints forced a seventh and deciding tournament game with an improbable ninth inning comeback in a PAC Tournament classic. Trailing 5-0 entering the frame and 5-1 with two outs, Thomas More rallied to tie the game 5-5, then capitalized on two W&J errors to win the game 6-5 in the 13th. The Saints then completed the comeback by edging the Presidents 2-1 in the tournament's final contest.

WASH. & JEFF. TO HOST 2010 PAC TOURNAMENT (5/12/10)
Washington & Jefferson College has earned the top seed and hosting rights for the 2010 PAC Baseball Championship Tournament, scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 13-15 at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pa. SIX NAMED TO 2010 ESPN THE MAGAZINE/CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT BASEBALL TEAMS (5/6/10)
A total of eight PAC student-athletes (six men, two women) were selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-District teams for baseball and softball, released May 6 by the College Sports Information Directors of America. In baseball, Wash. & Jeff junior P Pat Kennedy and Grove City junior IF Andrew Patterson were named first team in District 2, while Thomas More's senior IF Chris Fishburn and senior OF Marty Kersting were named first team in District 4. Second team laurels went to Grove City junior C Marcus Magister and Wash. & Jeff. junior OF Andy Trettel.

W&J LEADS MIDEAST REGION IN 1ST NCAA POLL (4/29/10)
The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has ranked Washington & Jefferson's baseball team No. 1 in the Mideast Region in the committee's first 2010 regional poll, released today. The Presidents are 24-6 overall, as well as 21-3 against regional opponents in games through April 27. The poll ranks the top 15 percent of eligible teams in eight different regions. The 2010 baseball squad is only the third team in any sport at Washington & Jefferson to reach the top spot in an NCAA regional poll; the 2002-03 women's basketball team was ranked in the Great Lakes region, while W&J football earned the top spot in 2007.

W&J RANKED NATIONALLY BY D3BASEBALL.COM (4/27/10)
The Washington & Jefferson baseball team have cracked into D3 Baseball.com's Top 25 poll for the first time this season, breaking in at No. 21. The Presidents, now 24-6 overall (10-1 PAC), went 5-1 last week, including wins against La Roche and conference opponents Thomas More and Saint Vincent. W&J hits the field for an important conference contest against Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky. tomorrow; the winner will hold the tiebreaker and inside track for the top PAC tournament seed.

W&J'S TRETTEL HAS HISTORIC STREAK SNAPPED (4/21/10)
Washington & Jefferson College baseball junior center fielder Andy Trettel's 55-game on-base streak came to an end on Tuesday (April 20) after he went 0-for-3 at the plate during a 6-2 loss to Thomas More at Ross Memorial Park. Trettel's 55-game streak ranks as the second-longest in NCAA Division III history. Salve Regina’s Damian Costantino retains the longest streak in history at 60 games (Apr. 4, 2001 - Mar. 10, 2003).

TMC'S UHL, BC'S KUBIS RECOGNIZED BY NCBWA (3/25/10)
Released today, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) named Thomas More's Paul Uhl a Division III National Co-Pitcher of the Week, while Bethany's Brad Kubis garnered Honorable Mention Hitter recognition. Uhl, went 2-0 last week, including a no hitter against Penn State Behrend. Kubis, the PAC Hitter of the Week, had a .522 batting average (12-23) which included one double, five homers, 12 RBIs and 10 runs.

UHL HONORED BY BASEBALL FOUNDATION (3/24/10)
Thomas More's Paul Uhl was named to the National All-Star Lineup this week by the College Baseball Foundation and Diamond Sport. Uhl, also named PAC Pitcher of the Week, was 2-0 on the mound last week with an 0.00 ERA as he had 10 shutout innings and gave up just one hit and two walks. Against Penn State-Behrend, he threw the NCAA Division III's sixth no-hitter of the season en route to the 10-0 win.

W&J BASEBALL LEADS PAC PRESEASON POLL (3/18/10)
The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team has been picked to repeat as champions of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), according to a preseason poll of the conference's head coaches.

SUMNER EARNS 500TH CAREER COACHING WIN (3/9/10)
Geneva head baseball coach Alan Sumner became the first coach in GT history in any sport to record 500 career coaching wins, when the Golden Tornadoes swept a doubleheader from Martin Luther College on Monday. Sumner is in his 22nd year at the helm of the GT baseball program.

PAC PAIR NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS (1/20/10)
Two PAC baseball standouts have been named to the 2010 Division III Preseason All-America teams by the D3Baseball.com website. Washington & Jefferson senior P/OF Jim Pasquine, the 2009 PAC Player of the Year, and Grove City junior C Marcus Magister were both honored as second team selections.

WAYNESBURG STARTS FIELD CONSTRUCTION (10/27/09)
When the 2010 baseball season arrives in February, the Waynesburg University baseball team will have a new place to call home. Earlier this month, construction began on a new baseball field for the Yellow Jackets, which will be located just off of West Roy Furman Highway west of Waynesburg. The new facility will be located beside the Waynesburg University softball field.
