FOUR FROM PAC NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (2/4/10)
Four PAC basketball standouts from four different conference
schools have been selected to the
2010 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic
All-District Basketball teams, released today by the
College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). Of the four honorees, three
were first team selections who will now advance to the national
College Division Academic All-America ballot. In
men's basketball, Washington & Jefferson senior G
Matt
Drakeley and Grove City senior C
Andy O'Keefe were
both first team honorees in District II, while Thomas More
senior F
Daniel McKeehan was tabbed to the first team in
District IV. The trio was joined by Bethany senior F
Joe
Testa, who earned second team recognition in District II.
THOMAS MORE RANKED IN REGIONAL NCAA POLL (2/4/10)
The NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Committee
has ranked Thomas More No. 6 in the Great Lakes region in
the committee's first 2010 regional poll. The rankings are
compiled by the committee then used to determine the field and
seeding for the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball
Championship. Following a nail-biter against Geneva Wednesday
night, the Saints are 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the PAC.
GCC'S O'KEEFE EARNS ECAC WEEKLY HONOR (1/27/10)
Grove City College senior men's basketball
player Andy O'Keefe has earned
Division III South Player of the Week honors from the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). O'Keefe, a 6-foot-7
center, earned PAC and ECAC Player of the Week honors after
averaging 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in
two Grove City victories last week.

the weekly show covering Division III basketball produced by the

THOMAS MORE-WAYNESBURG GAMES CHANGED (1/6/10)
Due to weather concerns forecasted for the Greater
Cincinnati and Western Pennsylvania areas this weekend, the PAC
basketball double-header between
Thomas More and
Waynesburg this Saturday has been moved from Crestview Hills, Ky., to
Waynesburg, Pa. The women's game will tip off at 1 p.m.,
followed by the men's game at 3 p.m. Additionally, the two teams
will face each other again Feb. 10 at Thomas More; women will
play at 4:30 p.m. and men will play at 6:30 p.m.

More volleyball standout Brandi Corbello have been named
December's Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athletes of the Month.
MURRAY NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN (11/9/09)
Westminster College 6-4 senior men's basketball forward
Ryne Murray continues to collect preseason
recognition on All-America teams, as
D3Hoops.com named Murray to
its
2009-10 preseason men's basketball All-America team as a
third-team selection. In addition to his D3Hoops.com preseason
All-America nod, Murray has also been listed as a preseason
All-American in the The Sporting News' College Basketball
Magazine.
TMC MEN PICKED FIRST IN PAC HOOPS POLL

The Thomas More College men's basketball team
was
picked to capture the 2009-10 championship in the
Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), according to the
preseason poll released following the 2009-10 PAC Basketball
Media Day conference call. Voters in the poll included
conference head coaches, sports information directors, and
members of the media participating in the media day conference

WC's ZACKAL WINS COSIDA WRITING AWARD (10/26/09)
Justin Zackal, who has served as
Westminster College sports information director since 2006,
took top honors in the 2009
College Sports Information Directors of America's
(CoSIDA) Fred Stabley Sr.
writing contest. Zackal's "Through
the Looking Glass," a profile of Westminster basketball
player and 2009 graduate Bobby Glass, earned
CoSIDA's national "Story of the Year" award. The contest
drew 316 entries from all NCAA divisions.
BILL EK NAMED PAC SUPERVISOR OF OFFICIALS
The PAC has named Bill Ek
Supervisor of Men's Basketball Officiating, effectively
immediately. Ek has 20 years of collegiate basketball
coaching experience and also serves as supervisor of men's
basketball officials for the Division III Ohio Athletic
Conference and the NAIA American Mideast Conference, as well as
the Ohio Community College Athletic
Conference and the Ohio Regional Campuses.
SACHS NAMED NEW BETHANY HEAD COACH
Andrews Sachs
has been named the new head men’s basketball coach at Bethany.
Sachs replaces Mike Summey, who stepped down in early
June to become the director of basketball operations at the
University of Miami (Fla.). Sachs has served as Ralph Willard’s
assistant at Division I Holy Cross for the past five seasons.
During that span, the Crusaders appeared in four Patriot League
Championship games, averaged over 20 wins per year, won two
regular season titles in 2005 and 2007 and won the Patriot
League Tournament in 2007 to receive an NCAA Tournament bid.
BC'S SUMMEY TAKES POSITION AT D-I MIAMI (FL)
Bethany College men’s basketball coach
Mike Summey has been named the Director of Men’s
Basketball Operations at the University of Miami (Fla.). A
national search has begun for Summey’s successor.
ROGERS PROMOTED TO LEAD THOMAS MORE
Jeff Rogers, an assistant coach with the Thomas More College
men's basketball program the past two seasons,
was promoted to lead the Saint program as head coach on April 23.
He replaces John Ellenwood, who resigned after three
seasons at TMC to take the head coaching position at Division II
Ashland University. The Louisville, Kentucky native was
instrumental in leading the Saints to their first-ever PAC men's
basketball title in 2008-09. A 1989 graduate of Western
Kentucky, Rogers previously spent 10 years as a high school head
coach, compiling a record of 201-84. He also held basketball
positions with Division I programs at the University of Kentucky
and UMKC after beginning his career as an intern with USA
Basketball.
PAC TRIO EARNS ECAC SOUTH RECOGNITION
Three PAC men's basketball standouts were honored with

ECAC Division III South Basketball All-Stars on April 2.

ELLENWOOD RESIGNS AS THOMAS MORE COACH
John Ellenwood, who was named 2009 PAC Men's Basketball
Coach of the Year after leading Thomas More to its first-ever
PAC title,
has resigned his position with Thomas More to take the head
coaching position at NCAA Division II Ashland University in
Ashland, Ohio. Ellenwood was 33-48 in three years leading the
Saint program, including a 19-9 mark and an NCAA Division III
Tournament appearance in 2008-09. A national search for his
replacement has begun, according to TMC athletic director
Terry Connor.

W&J MEN CAPTURE ECAC D-III SOUTH
TITLE
Seniors Josip Lucic-Jozak and
Wahab Owolabi both racked up double-doubles of 21 points
and 10 rebounds in their final collegiate game to lead
sixth-seeded Washington & Jefferson to a 79-67 victory over
top-seeded Cabrini in the championship game of the
ECAC Division III South Men's Basketball Tournament on
Sunday, March 8. The
Presidents (20-10) became just the second team in school history
to win 20 games in a season.
W&J CAGERS ADVANCE TO ECAC TITLE GAME
The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team advanced to
the championship game of the
2009 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament on Saturday,
March 7. The Presidents, seeded sixth in the eight-team,
single-elimination tournament, posted their second consecutive
upset win by upending second-seeded Catholic University 57-41.
The game was tied 21-21 at the half, but the Presidents
outscored CU 36-20 in the final 20 minutes to advance. W&J will
now play top seed and host Cabrini tomorrow (Sunday, March 8) at
2 p.m. for the ECAC crown.
TMC MEN DROP OT
THRILLER IN NCAA 1ST ROUND
The opening round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Basketball
Tournament took place on Friday, March 6. The game of the night on the men's side
saw
the PAC
champion Thomas More men gave #13-ranked Capital all it could
handle before falling 80-77 in overtime to the hosts in
Columbus, Ohio. With the loss, the Saint season ends at 19-9.
