W&J'S DRAKELEY AWARDED NCAA POSTGRAD SCHOLARSHIP (5/3/2010)
Washington and Jefferson senior basketball player
Matt Drakeley was awarded the NCAA Postgraduate
Scholarship today, a $7,500 scholarship that promotes and
encourages postgraduate education by rewarding the association's
most accomplished student-athletes. The biochemistry major
boasts a 3.98 GPA and is one of 58 student-athletes (29 male, 29
female) from all NCAA divisions to earn the scholarship for the
winter season. Drakeley is the third W&J student in the past
four years to receive the scholarship, joining baseball player
Sam Mann (2007) and women's soccer player Megan Ferderber
(2009). Drakeley wrapped up his
basketball career with the most victories (60) by a W&J
basketball player in school history; he averaged 8.3 points, 3.2
rebounds and 3.2 assists in the 2009-10 basketball campaign.

for April 2010.
CHRISTNER NAMED MEN'S COACH AT WAYNESBURG (4/9/10)
Mark Christner has been hired as the new head men’s
basketball coach at Waynesburg University. He replaces
Frank Ferraro, who resigned after leading the Yellow Jacket
program for seven years.
Christner comes to Waynesburg from a very successful
Calvin
program. During his eight years (2002-2010) as an assistant men’s coach
and head men’s junior varsity coach, Christner helped lead the
Knights to four berths in the NCAA Division
III national
tournament. During his time on the bench, Calvin posted an
impressive 158-73 record and won three Michigan Intercollegiate
Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season titles.
PAC HOOPSTERS HONORED BY WEBSITE (3/24/10)
Two PAC basketball players were selected for All-America
teams by
Small College Hoops.com's D-III News today. Grove City
senior Andy O'Keefe was named Honorable Mention
All-American, while Thiel freshman Blair Rozenblad was
named to the All-Freshman Team.
NABC HONORS GROVE CITY'S O'KEEFE, LAMIE (3/18/10)
The
National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) honored
Grove City College head men's basketball coach Steve Lamie
and senior center Andy O'Keefe
in recognition of their respective efforts during the 2009-10
season. Lamie earned Great Lakes Co-Coach of the Year while
O'Keefe is a First Team All-Great Lakes honoree.

MCKEEHAN TABBED PAC SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (3/17/10)
Grove City's Michelle Peck and Thomas More's Daniel McKeehan
were named PAC Scholar-Athletes of the Month for March by the
conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Peck, a
molecular biology major with a 3.74 GPA, is a senior member of
the Wolverine soccer and golf teams. McKeehan, a business
administration/economics major with a 4.0 GPA, is a senior
member of the Saint basketball team.

GENEVA WINS NCCAA REGIONAL, BETHANY FALLS (3/6/10)
It was a mixed day for PAC basketball teams in postseason
action on Saturday, March 6. In ECAC men's action, Bethany
narrowly dropped a 67-65 decision to Penn State-Behrend in a
semifinal matchup at Catholic University in Washington, DC, to
close the season at 19-9 overall. However, the Geneva men
captured the 2010 NCCAA East Regional title by virtue of an
81-74 home victory over D-II Nyack. The GTs now advance to the
NCCAA National Tournament, to be held March 18-20 in Oakland
City, Ind., against an opponent TBA.
GROVE CITY DROPS NCAA OPENER AT WOOSTER (3/5/10)
The PAC champion Grove City College men hung tight with
national power Wooster in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA
Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, before falling by a
63-52 score to end the season at 19-9 overall.
BETHANY MEN CAPTURE ECAC OPENER (3/3/10)
The 2010 basketball postseason got off to a great start for
the PAC on Wednesday night in the ECAC Division III South
Region Basketball Tournaments. In men's action,
#2 seed Bethany
edged #7 Neumann 70-68 to advance to the weekend semifinals at
top-seeded Catholic University in Washington, DC, where the
Bison will face #3 seed Penn State Behrend on Saturday at 7
p.m..
MCKEEHAN NAMED JOSTENS TROPHY FINALIST (3/2/10)

Daniel McKeehan
has been selected as one of the 10 finalists for the highly
prestigious
2010 Jostens Trophy. The Jostens Trophy is a national award
created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Virginia, to honor the most
outstanding men's Division III basketball player of the year. The
award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability,
academic prowess and community service.
2010 ALL-PAC MEN'S HOOPS TEAMS RELEASED (3/2/10)
The 2010 All-PAC Men's Basketball
teams have been released. PAC champion Grove City College swept
the major awards, as senior C Andy O'Keefe earned PAC Player
of the Year honors while veteran Wolverine mentor Steve Lamie
was tabbed 2010 PAC Coach of the Year.
GCC HEADS TO WOOSTER FOR NCAA D-III TOURNEY

The 2010 PAC champion
Grove City College men's basketball team
will play at the College of Wooster in the first round of the
NCAA
Division III Men's Basketball Tournament this Friday (March 5)
at 8 p.m. The Wolverines (19-8) earned the PAC's automatic bid
to the tournament and will face the Scots (23-5), who earned the
automatic bid as the champion of the North Coast Athletic
Conference. The Grove City-Wooster winner will face the winner of
the first round contest between Wisconsin-Whitewater (22-5) and
Defiance (23-5) on Saturday.
BETHANY MEN EARN ECAC D-III SOUTH HOOPS BID (3/1/10)
The Bethany College men's basketball team has been selected
to participate in the 2010 ECAC Division III South Region
Basketball Tournament as the #2 seed. The Bison (18-8) will host
#7 Neumann (16-12) on Wednesday at 7 p.m., with the winner
advancing to the weekend semifinals/finals at Catholic
University in Washington, DC.
GCC MEN CAPTURE 2010 PAC BASKETBALL TITLE (2/27/10)
The 2010 PAC Men's &
Women's Basketball Championship
Tournaments concluded on Saturday, February 27, with the
top-seeded Grove City men and Thomas More women capturing league
crowns. The Wolverine men captured the seventh PAC men's
basketball title in school history and the fourth under head
coach Steve Lamie ('99, '03, '07, '10) with a 78-61
victory over second seed Thomas More at the GCC Arena. In
women's action, the top-seeded Saints ended the Cinderella run
of fourth-seeded Westminster with a 77-67 finals victory in
Crestview Hills, Ky. TMC has now won four consecutive PAC crowns
under head coach Brian Neal. Both PAC champions will now
receive automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA Division III
Tournaments, with brackets scheduled to be released on Monday
(March 1).

TOP SEEDS ADVANCE TO 2010 PAC TITLE GAME (2/25/10)
Top-seeded Grove City and second-seeded Thomas More each
staved off semifinal upset bids Thursday night to advance to the
championship game of the 2010 PAC Men's
Basketball Tournament. The Wolverines overcame an
eight-point second half deficit to edge fifth-seeded Washington
& Jefferson 63-59 in one semifinal, while in the other, the
defending PAC champion Saints used a huge second half run to
rally from a five-point (39-34) halftime deficit and defeat
third seed Bethany 88-73. Grove City will host Thomas More at
the GCC Arena on Saturday night (Feb. 27) at 7:30 p.m., with the
winner capturing the 2010 PAC title and the conference's
automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament starting
next week. Both teams finished 9-3 in PAC regular season play,
but Grove City swept both meetings with Thomas More, winning
98-93 in overtime at home and 96-85 in Kentucky.
GENEVA ADVANCES TO NCCAA REGIONAL FINAL (2/24/10)
The
Geneva men's basketball team advanced to the finals of the
National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) East
Regional Wednesday, as the Golden Tornadoes (15-11) defeated
NAIA member Roberts Wesleyan (16-12) in a semifinal matchup at
Metheny Fieldhouse. The GTs now advance to the East Regional
finals against Nyack on a date TBA, with the winner earning an
automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament in Oakland City,
Ind. on March 18-20.
PAC TOURNAMENTS GET UNDERWAY TUESDAY (2/23/10)
The 2010 PAC Basketball Championship Tournaments got
underway on Tuesday, Feb. 23 with seven first round games.
On
the men's side, the game of the night was in Greenville, where
#5 Washington & Jefferson upended #4 Thiel
80-77 in overtime. In
other first round men's action, #3 Bethany overcame a
seven-point halftime deficit to defeat #6 Westminster
82-73,
while #2 Thomas More had to work to put away a stubborn #7
Waynesburg squad before finally prevailing
84-71. W&J now plays
at top-seeded Grove City (which had a first round bye) while
Bethany plays at Thomas More in the semifinal round Thursday at
7 p.m.
MCKEEHAN EARNS ESPN NATIONAL HONOR (2/22/10)
Thomas More College senior Daniel
McKeehan has been selected as the
College Division ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America
Men's Basketball Player of the Year by the
College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the first
male student-athlete in PAC history to earn Academic All-American of
the Year laurels and only the second overall (Jackie Sassaman,
Waynesburg, women's soccer, 2005). A double major in Economics and Business
Finance, McKeehan has
a perfect 4.00 grade point average. The first Saint in school
history to win the award, he has led Thomas More to a 19-6
record and a share of the PAC regular season title.
The College Division is made up of 933 schools at
the NCAA Division II, III and NAIA levels. The
Academic
All-America basketball teams were announced on Monday evening
during the ESPN "Big Monday" telecast.
Grove City
senior C Andy O'Keefe joined McKeehan on the teams, with
McKeehan earning first team honors and O'Keefe garnering second
team recognition.
GENEVA EARNS NCCAA PLAYOFF BID (2/21/10)
The Geneva men's basketball program has been selected to
compete in the 2010 National Christian College Athletic
Association (NCCAA) East Regional Tournament. The Golden
Tornadoes (14-11) will host NAIA member Roberts Wesleyan (16-11)
in an East Regional semifinal game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. If
Geneva wins, they will host Nyack College for the right to
compete at the NCCAA National Tournament in Oakland City, Ind.,

The NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Committee
has ranked Thomas More No. 6 in the Great Lakes region in
the committee's first 2010 regional poll. The rankings are
compiled by the committee then used to determine the field and
seeding for the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball
Championship. Following a nail-biter against Geneva Wednesday
night, the Saints are 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the PAC.
GCC'S O'KEEFE EARNS ECAC WEEKLY HONOR (1/27/10)
Grove City College senior men's basketball
player Andy O'Keefe has earned
Division III South Player of the Week honors from the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). O'Keefe, a 6-foot-7
center, earned PAC and ECAC Player of the Week honors after
averaging 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in
two Grove City victories last week.

THOMAS MORE-WAYNESBURG GAMES CHANGED (1/6/10)
Due to weather concerns forecasted for the Greater
Cincinnati and Western Pennsylvania areas this weekend, the PAC
basketball double-header between
Thomas More and
Waynesburg this Saturday has been moved from Crestview Hills, Ky., to
Waynesburg, Pa. The women's game will tip off at 1 p.m.,
followed by the men's game at 3 p.m. Additionally, the two teams
will face each other again Feb. 10 at Thomas More; women will
play at 4:30 p.m. and men will play at 6:30 p.m.

TMC MEN PICKED FIRST IN PAC HOOPS POLL

picked to capture the 2009-10 championship in the
Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), according to the
preseason poll released following the 2009-10 PAC Basketball
Media Day conference call. Voters in the poll included
conference head coaches, sports information directors, and
members of the media participating in the media day conference

WC's ZACKAL WINS COSIDA WRITING AWARD (10/26/09)
Justin Zackal, who has served as
Westminster College sports information director since 2006,
took top honors in the 2009
College Sports Information Directors of America's
(CoSIDA) Fred Stabley Sr.
writing contest. Zackal's "Through
the Looking Glass," a profile of Westminster basketball
player and 2009 graduate Bobby Glass, earned
CoSIDA's national "Story of the Year" award. The contest
drew 316 entries from all NCAA divisions.
BILL EK NAMED PAC SUPERVISOR OF OFFICIALS
The PAC has named Bill Ek
Supervisor of Men's Basketball Officiating, effectively
immediately. Ek has 20 years of collegiate basketball
coaching experience and also serves as supervisor of men's
basketball officials for the Division III Ohio Athletic
Conference and the NAIA American Mideast Conference, as well as
the Ohio Community College Athletic
Conference and the Ohio Regional Campuses.
SACHS NAMED NEW BETHANY HEAD COACH
Andrews Sachs
has been named the new head men’s basketball coach at Bethany.
Sachs replaces Mike Summey, who stepped down in early
June to become the director of basketball operations at the
University of Miami (Fla.). Sachs has served as Ralph Willard’s
assistant at Division I Holy Cross for the past five seasons.
During that span, the Crusaders appeared in four Patriot League
Championship games, averaged over 20 wins per year, won two
regular season titles in 2005 and 2007 and won the Patriot
League Tournament in 2007 to receive an NCAA Tournament bid.
BC'S SUMMEY TAKES POSITION AT D-I MIAMI (FL)
Bethany College men’s basketball coach
Mike Summey has been named the Director of Men’s
Basketball Operations at the University of Miami (Fla.). A
national search has begun for Summey’s successor.
ROGERS PROMOTED TO LEAD THOMAS MORE
Jeff Rogers, an assistant coach with the Thomas More College
men's basketball program the past two seasons,
was promoted to lead the Saint program as head coach on April 23.
He replaces John Ellenwood, who resigned after three
seasons at TMC to take the head coaching position at Division II
Ashland University. The Louisville, Kentucky native was
instrumental in leading the Saints to their first-ever PAC men's
basketball title in 2008-09. A 1989 graduate of Western
Kentucky, Rogers previously spent 10 years as a high school head
coach, compiling a record of 201-84. He also held basketball
positions with Division I programs at the University of Kentucky
and UMKC after beginning his career as an intern with USA
Basketball.
PAC TRIO EARNS ECAC SOUTH RECOGNITION

ELLENWOOD RESIGNS AS THOMAS MORE COACH
John Ellenwood, who was named 2009 PAC Men's Basketball
Coach of the Year after leading Thomas More to its first-ever
PAC title,
has resigned his position with Thomas More to take the head
coaching position at NCAA Division II Ashland University in
Ashland, Ohio. Ellenwood was 33-48 in three years leading the
Saint program, including a 19-9 mark and an NCAA Division III
Tournament appearance in 2008-09. A national search for his
replacement has begun, according to TMC athletic director
Terry Connor.

W&J MEN CAPTURE ECAC D-III SOUTH
TITLE
Seniors Josip Lucic-Jozak and
Wahab Owolabi both racked up double-doubles of 21 points
and 10 rebounds in their final collegiate game to lead
sixth-seeded Washington & Jefferson to a 79-67 victory over
top-seeded Cabrini in the championship game of the
ECAC Division III South Men's Basketball Tournament on
Sunday, March 8. The
Presidents (20-10) became just the second team in school history
to win 20 games in a season.
W&J CAGERS ADVANCE TO ECAC TITLE GAME
The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team advanced to
the championship game of the
2009 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament on Saturday,
March 7. The Presidents, seeded sixth in the eight-team,
single-elimination tournament, posted their second consecutive
upset win by upending second-seeded Catholic University 57-41.
The game was tied 21-21 at the half, but the Presidents
outscored CU 36-20 in the final 20 minutes to advance. W&J will
now play top seed and host Cabrini tomorrow (Sunday, March 8) at
2 p.m. for the ECAC crown.
TMC MEN DROP OT
THRILLER IN NCAA 1ST ROUND
The opening round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Basketball
Tournament took place on Friday, March 6. The game of the night on the men's side
saw
the PAC
champion Thomas More men gave #13-ranked Capital all it could
handle before falling 80-77 in overtime to the hosts in
Columbus, Ohio. With the loss, the Saint season ends at 19-9.
