OESWEIN EARNS SECOND ALL-AMERICA HONOR (1/4/12)
Thomas More senior M Alex Oeswein earned his second All-American honor of the year last week as he was named to the D3soccer.com All-American Teams. Oeswein, who was named a second team All-American by the NSCAA in December, was named to the All-American Third Team by D3soccer.com. He led the team in scoring with 48 points on a team-high 20 goals and a team-high eight assists. Oeswein also recorded three hat tricks in 19 games played in 2011.

 

WAYNESBURG TABS GRIFFITHS AS HEAD COACH (12/29/11)
Waynesburg University has hired Carl Griffiths as its new head men's and women's soccer coach. Griffiths comes to the Yellow Jackets from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., where he spent the past two-plus seasons as the first assistant coach to the Thunder men's soccer team, which is the winningest program in NCAA Division III history. Griffiths is also a graduate of Wheaton, where during his four years with the Thunder, Griffiths played in 67 games as a defender, including 24 starts as a senior co-captain en route to All-CCIW first team laurels. That same year, Griffiths helped lead the Thunder to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Championship, where they lost to national power Messiah. For his efforts, he was also tabbed for the NCAA Final Four Tournament Team.

 

PAC HAS 14 NAMED SCHOLAR ALL-REGION (12/22/11)
The PAC has placed 14 conference men's soccer standouts on the 2011 College Division Men's Scholar All-East Region teams, awarded by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Leading the way was Geneva senior M Jake McCracken (3.67 GPA, business finance), who was the lone PAC first team representative. Grove City junior D Josh Kern (3.56 GPA, entrepreneurship) was tabbed to the second team, while Geneva junior F Jeb Nash (3.51 GPA, business) was a third team selection. In addition, 11 PAC players representing Bethany, Geneva, Grove City, Saint Vincent and Westminster earned Honorable Mention laurels.

 

TMC'S OESWEIN NAMED NSCAA ALL-AMERICAN (12/15/11)
Thomas More senior Alex Oeswein, the 2011 PAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year, has been named to the 2011 NCAA Division III All-America Second Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is the first Saint men's soccer player in school history to garner All-America recognition. Oeswein, a midfielder, led the team and conference in scoring with 48 points on  20 goals and eight assists.  He also recorded three hat tricks in 19 games played in 2011, as the Saints finished 16-2-1 overall and 8-0 in the PAC. 

 

SEVEN NAMED TO NSCAA ALL-REGION TEAMS (12/14/11)
The PAC has placed seven men's soccer standouts on the 2011 NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region teams, released today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). 2011 PAC champion Thomas More led the way with three honorees, including both first team selections in 2011 PAC Player of the year senior M Alex Oeswein and senior D Keith Kreidenweis. Second team selections were senior M Jake McCracken of Geneva and junior D Josh Kern of Grove City, while third team laurels went to Thomas More senior GK Zach Lawson, Geneva junior F Jeb Nash, and Bethany sophomore F Arkangelo James.

 

GENEVA PLACES SECOND IN NCCAA TOURNEY (12/4/11)
The Geneva men's soccer team nearly completed a miracle run to the championship before finishng as the national runner-up at the 2011 NCCAA Men's Soccer National Tournament, held this week in Kissimmee, Fla. The Golden Tornadoes, led by head coach Gary Dunda, entered the eight-team, single-elimination tournament as the seventh seed and were the lone non-scholarship team competing. However, the GTs posted upsets over second-seeded Palm Beach Atlantic 1-0 on Wednesday and against Judson 2-1 in overtime Thursday to advance to the national title match against top-seeded California Baptist. The upset run came to an end Saturday night, as Geneva dropped a 2-1 decision and was thus denied its first NCCAA National Championship since the 1994 season.

 

GCC PAIR NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS (11/30/11)
A pair of Grove City College senior men's soccer players earned Division III Academic All-America honors from Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Brian Eckenhoff  (3.98 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), business management) earned Second Team Academic All-America at midfielder and Tim Boswell (3.98 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), molecular biology) earned Third Team Academic All-America at forward. The 2011-12 academic year marks the first year that CoSIDA has based its Academic All-America program on individual divisions within college athletics. Currently, CoSIDA honors student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with a "College" division that includes NAIA institutions and junior colleges.

 

2011 ALL-PAC MEN'S SOCCER TEAM RELEASED (11/16/11)
The 2011 All-PAC men's soccer team is now online. Thomas More head coach Jeff Cummings was named 2011 PAC Coach of the Year, while 2011 PAC Player of the Year laurels went to Thomas More senior M Alex Oeswein.

 

THOMAS MORE FALLS 2-1 TO HOPE IN NCAAs (11/11/11)
The 2011 PAC champion Thomas More men's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Nov. 11, as the Saints (16-2-1) dropped a 2-1 decision to Hope at River Forest, Ill., in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship tournament. After trailing 1-0 on a Hope goal in the 25th minute, Thomas More tied the match 1-1 at 37:29 when freshman F Kyle Troutman  found the back of the net on a header off a deflection. Hope scored the eventual game-winning goal at 86:38. Both teams posted 12 shots in the contest.

 

BOTH GROVE CITY SOCCER TEAMS FALL IN ECACs (11/9/11)
Both Grove City soccer teams were eliminated in first round ECAC play. The #7-seeded GCC men fell 1-0 at #2 Medaille in the 2011 ECAC D-III South Men's Soccer Tournament, while the eighth-seeded Wolverine women dropped a 4-1 decision at top-seeded Frostburg State in the 2011 ECAC D-III South Women's Soccer Tournament.

 

PAC TEAMS EARN ECAC FALL TOURNEY BERTHS (11/7/11)
The PAC has had four teams earn berths into this week's ECAC Division III South Tournaments for volleyball and soccer, including both Grove City soccer teams. The Wolverine men (12-5-1) are seeded seventh and will travel to face second seed Medaille (17-3-1) Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the 2011 ECAC Division III South Men's Soccer Tournament. First round winners will advance to the weekend "final four" in each sport, hosted by the highest remaining seed.

 

TMC FACES HOPE IN NCAA D-III CHAMPIONSHIP (11/7/11)
Three PAC fall sport champion learned their tournament fate today as the NCAA announced the 2011 Division III Championship brackets in the sports of women's volleyball and men's & women's soccer. PAC champion Thomas More (16-6-1) will open the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship with an opening round contest against Hope (10-4-3) from the MIAA, taking place on Friday (Nov. 11) at 2:30 p.m. EST (1:30 p.m. CST) at Dominican (Ill.).

 

FIVE FROM PAC NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (11/7/11)
A total of 10 PAC soccer student-athletes (five men, five women) have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Soccer first teams, released recently by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As first team honorees, all 10 PAC student-athletes now advance to the Academic All-America soccer ballot. On the men's side, Bethany senior M Alex Stubbs (3.90 GPA, business administration) was tabbed in District II, while in District IV three Grove City standouts - junior D Josh Kern (3.56, entrepreneurship), senior M Brian Eckenhoff (3.98, business management) and senior F Tim Boswell (3.98, molecular biology) - joined Westminster senior F Coty Hainsey (3.67, mathematics) on the squad.

 

THOMAS MORE SWEEPS 2011 PAC SOCCER TITLES (11/4/11)

The Thomas More Saints swept the 2011 PAC soccer titles on November 4 with a pair of home championship victories. The Saint women had little trouble with fourth-seeded Waynesburg in the 2011 PAC Women's Soccer Tournament final, as Thomas More outshot the Yellow Jackets 24-0 en route to a 3-0 victory. The final of the 2011 PAC Men's Soccer Tournament was a different story, as second-seeded Geneva led 1-0 at the half and 2-0 early in the second, only to see TMC rally to tie the game 2-2 with under three minutes to play in regulation, then post the game-winning 5:43 into overtime for a 3-2 OT victory. Both Saint squads now receive the PAC's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship playoffs which begin next week.

 

THOMAS MORE, GENEVA EACH ADVANCE TO PAC FINALS; SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS MOVED TO FRIDAY (11/2/11)

The top two seeds each advanced out of the semifinal round of the 2011 PAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Wednesday. Top-seeded Thomas More posted a 3-1 victory against #4 Bethany, while #2 Geneva edged #3 Grove City 1-0. The Saints will now host the Golden Tornadoes for the 2011 PAC men's soccer title this Friday (Nov. 4) at 3 p.m. at the Bank of Kentucky Field, immediately after the 2011 PAC women's soccer title match between #2 Thomas More and #4 Waynesburg, which begin at noon. Both matches were moved from Saturday due to a facility conflict with the Thomas More-Waynesburg football game.

 

PAC ANNOUNCES SOCCER TOURNEY SCHEDULES (10/29/11)
The PAC has announced the schedules for the 2011 PAC Championship Tournaments in the sports of men's & women's soccer and women's volleyball. The tournaments, which take place next week on campus sites, will crown the 2011 PAC champions in all three sports that will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships the following week (Nov. 10-12). Admission for all PAC Championship events is $5 for adults, $2 for students and $1 for programs. PAC and institutional passes are not accepted at PAC championship events.

 

2011 PAC FALL SPORTS PREVIEWS: M. SOCCER (8/24/11)
Today, we look at PAC men's soccer. Last year, all three PAC Tournament games were upsets, concluding with fourth-seed Thomas More edging third-seed Bethany in the title match. The two-time defending PAC champion Saints will try to advance to their third straight NCAA Tournament this fall. However, TMC will again face quality competition from several conference foes, including 2010 regular season champion Washington & Jefferson. Other challengers include Bethany, which brings back its starting goalkeeper and top five scorers, and Grove City, who returns seven starters. Also Geneva, after being approved for NCAA Division III active membership this summer, will be looking to build off of a solid campaign of 14-3-2 in 2010. FLOYD TABBED AS PAC SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (5/18/11)
Two-sport (soccer/tennis) star David Floyd of Waynesburg University has been named PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for May 2011.

 

MADDOCK EARNS POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP (3/11/11)
Washington & Jefferson College senior men’s soccer player Sean Maddock  has been awarded a $7,500 postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA. Maddock, a physics major and French minor, is one of 29 male student-athletes from the NCAA fall season sports among all divisions (I, II, III) to earn the scholarship.  He boasts a 3.93 grade-point average. He is the fourth W&J student-athlete in the past five years to receive the prestigious scholarship, joining men’s basketball point guard Matt Drakeley (2010), women’s soccer standout Megan Ferderber (2009) and baseball star Sam Mann (2007). 

 

PAC PLAYERS NAMED ALL-REGION BY NSCAA (12/10/10)
A total of 10 PAC soccer standouts (seven women, three men) have been selected to the 2010 All-Great Lakes Region teams by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The women's squads were highlighted by a pair of Thomas More teammates - junior GK Katie Burger and sophomore F Abby Gindling - earning second team honors. Five others were tabbed to the third team: Thomas More senior D Alex Crouch, Washington & Jefferson sophomore D Lauren Reynolds, Grove City senior F and 2010 PAC Player of the Year Hannah Yang, Westminster senior F Sarah Nee, and Waynesburg junior F Courtney Ebersole. On the men's side, Thomas More senior M and 2010 PAC Player of the Year Dan Miller was joined by Bethany freshman F Arkangelo James on the second team, while Grove City senior M Chuck Witt garnered third team laurels.

 

PAC PAIR NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS (11/18/10)
A pair of PAC men's soccer standouts have been selected to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America College Division Men's Soccer teams, released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Grove City senior midfielder Chuck Witt (3.95 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), mechanical engineering) was a First Team selection, while Washington & Jefferson senior defender Sean Maddock (3.95 cumulative GPA, physics/French) was a Second Team honoree. Witt is Grove City's 32nd Academic All-American and the first Wolverine soccer player to earn the honor since Jeff Hinebaugh in 1989. Maddock is the 27th Academic All-American all-time at W&J and just the second soccer player to earn the award, joining Chris Rihn (1994-95).

 

WEAVER NAMED PAC SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (11/18/10)

The PAC announced today that soccer player  Matt Weaver of Geneva has been named Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for November 2010.

 

2010 ALL-PAC SOCCER TEAMS RELEASED (11/17/10)
The 2010 All-PAC teams for both men's soccer and women's soccer have been released. MVP honors for 2010 went to Thomas More senior M Dan Miller and Grove City senior F Hannah Yang, while Bethany's Sean Regan (men) and W&J's Pete Curtis (women) earned 2010 PAC Coach of the Year laurels.

 

SIX PAC TEAMS EARN ECAC TOURNEY BERTHS (11/8/10)
Six PAC soccer and volleyball teams have been selected to compete in the 2010 ECAC Division III South Region Tournaments. Saint Vincent is the top-seed in the eight-team ECAC D-III South Volleyball Tournament and will host #8 Penn State-Behrend at the Carey Center Wednesday (Nov. 10) at 7 p.m. If the Bearcats win, they will host the semifinals and finals in Latrobe this weekend. Bethany volleyball is also at home Wednesday night, as the third-seeded Bison host #6 Stevenson at 7 p.m.  Three PAC teams are in action in the ECAC D-III South Men's Soccer Tournament, with two facing each other on Wednesday. #2 Washington & Jefferson will host #7 Grove City in a first-round contest at 6 p.m., while #8 Bethany will play top-seeded Penn State-Behrend in Erie at 1:30 p.m. Finally, in ECAC D-III Women's Soccer Tournament action, Grove City is the second seed and will host a first round match against Misericordia at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

 

PAC TEAMS HIT THE ROAD FOR NCAA PLAYOFFS (11/8/10)
All three PAC champions in the sports of soccer and volleyball will be on the road for the opening round of the NCAA Division III playoffs this week. In men's soccer, PAC champion Thomas More (11-5-2) will face Dominican (18-1-1) in a first round match Friday at 11 a.m., at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. PAC women's soccer champion Washington & Jefferson (14-5-1) will face Illinois Wesleyan (16-1-3) in an opening round contest at Denison University in Granville, Ohio on Saturday at 11 a.m. Finally, in volleyball first round action, league champion Thomas More (28-7) will travel to Atlanta and Emory University for a first-round matchup against Southwestern (29-6) on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
 

FOUR TITLES AWARDED ON CHAMPIONSHIP SAT. (11/6/10)
It was "Championship Saturday" in the PAC on November 6, as conference titles were awarded in men's & women's soccer and volleyball, while in addition the football conference crown was also clinched (see below). All three defending soccer/volleyball champions from 2009 posted repeat performances and earned automatic bids to next week's NCAA Division III Tournaments. In men's soccer, #4 seed Thomas More posted the tourney's third straight upset win, as the Saints edged #3 Bethany 2-1 for their second straight league crown. Women's soccer saw #2 Washington & Jefferson earn its third straight PAC title, as the Presidents broke open a scoreless halftime tie with three second half goals to defeat #4 Westminster 3-0. Finally, top-seeded Thomas More rallied from an opening set loss to defeat #2 Thiel 3-1 in the PAC volleyball title match, giving the Saint spikers their third straight league championship.

 

MEN'S SOCCER FAVORITES EACH FALL AS 2010 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT GETs UNDERWAY (11/2/10)
The PAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament got underway on Tuesday, Nov. 2, as both men's soccer favorites suffered upset losses. The first upset came at Grove City, where third-seeded Bethany scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the contest, then held off the second-ranked Wolverines for a 2-1 victory. The Bison will now host Saturday's PAC Championship match at 1 p.m. after fourth-seed and defending PAC champion Thomas More eliminated top-seeded Washington & Jefferson from the tournament. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie through 120 minutes, after which the Saints advanced via a 5-3 advantage in penalty kicks.

 

PAC HAS SEVEN NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (11/2/10)

A total of seven standout PAC men's soccer student-athletes  have been selected to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-District soccer teams, released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Three conference players earned first team honors in District II and now advance to the Academic All-America ballot: W&J senior D Sean Maddock (3.95 GPA, physics) and the Grove City duo of senior M Chuck Witt (3.95, mechanical engineering) and junior F Brian Eckenhoff (3.98, business management). Second team honors went to W&J senior M Stephen Bosak (3.73, history) and Waynesburg junior F Erick Burke (3.35, criminal justice), while third team laurels went to Waynesburg junior D David Floyd (3.96, communication) and Westminster junior F Coty Hainsey (3.72, mathematics).

 

PAC ANNOUNCES SOCCER TOURNEY SCHEDULES (10/30/10)
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) has announced seeds and pairings for the 2010 PAC Championship Tournaments in the sports of men's & women's soccer and women's volleyball. All three tournaments will take place on campus sites next week, with all three PAC champions earning automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA Division III playoffs, which begin the week of November 8.

Saint Vincent’s Kyle Thompson scored the eventual gamewinner against Westminster just four minutes into the first half, assisted by Elom Pedanou ... 2010 PAC PREVIEW: PARITY REIGNS AT THE TOP (8/25/10)
When the Thomas More Saints captured their first-ever PAC men's soccer championship with a 1-0 title match victory over Washington & Jefferson last season, it continued a trend of parity at the top of the PAC standings. With the victory, TMC became the fourth different PAC champion in men's soccer in the past five seasons, joining Westminster (2006, '08), Grove City (2005) and W&J (2007). This year, the four recent champions will be pushed by a group of steadily improving young programs looking to move into the upper echelon of the conference. GENEVA NAMES GARY DUNDA HEAD COACH (4/29/10)
Geneca College has hired Gary Dunda as the new head coach of the Golden Tornado men's soccer program. He replaces Todd Beall, who resigned after four seasons to take the head coaching position at his alma mater, Cedarville University. Dunda comes to College Hill after serving as head coach at Division III Goucher College for the past 10 seasons, following previous coaching stints at Missouri Valley and Ottawa. He is a 1997 graduate of national D-III soccer power Messiah, where he was a four-year letterman, and also earned a master's degree from Emporia State in 2001.
 

TWO PAC SOCCER PLAYERS HONORED BY NSCAA (3/9/10)
Two PAC soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) Scholar All-East Region teams. Thomas More junior forward Aaron Osborne was named to the third team, while Westminster junior midfielder Aaron Zavora was listed honorable mention.

Senior PAC student-athlete Matt Fecik of Saint Vincent College  has been named PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Month for January 2010.
 

PAC TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP WINNERS RELEASED (12/10/09)
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) has announced the PAC Team Sportsmanship Award winners for Fall 2009 sports. The PAC Team Sportsmanship Award was started in the 2008-09 sports season, and is an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and is presented to one team in each of the 19 PAC-sponsored varsity sports.
 

SVC DUO HONORED ON ECAC ALL-STAR TEAMS (12/3/09)
A pair of Saint Vincent soccer standouts - Ben Fecik and Luis Rodriguez - have been named to the 2009 ECAC Division III South Men's All-Star Teams. Fecik, a senior midfielder, was a first team selection, while Rodriguez, a senior forward, earned second team recognition. Both players earned PAC Coaches Honors in 2009.
 

2009 ALL-PAC MEN'S SOCCER TEAMS RELEASED (11/18/09)
The PAC has released the 2009 all-conference teams and postseason award winners in men's soccer. Thomas More junior F Aaron Osborne was named MVP, while Saint mentor Jeff Cummings was tabbed as Coach of the Year.
 

PAC SOCCER TEAMS FALL IN POSTSEASON PLAY (11/14/09)
PAC soccer and volleyball teams had a rough time in postseason play this week, as all three conference NCAA representatives dropped opening round games. Thomas More men's soccer dropped a 4-2 decision at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, while W&J women's soccer was defeated at Calvin 4-0 on Friday. Thomas More volleyball won its opening set against St. Mary's (Minn.) on Thursday, but could not hold on as the Saints were defeated 3-1 in the opening round match at Washington University in St. Louis Thursday. In ECAC playoff action, Saint Vincent volleyball opened play with a 3-2 first round victory at Penn State-Behrend Wednesday, before falling at top-seeded DeSales 3-1 on Saturday. Finally, Grove City women's soccer suffered a 2-1 setback to Behrend in an ECAC first round match in Erie on Wednesday.
 

CALLAHAN NAMED PAC SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (11/10/09)
The PAC announced today that men's soccer standout David Callahan of Geneva College has been named PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for November, 2009.
 

THOMAS MORE HEADS TO CMU IN NCAA TOURNEY (11/9/09)
All three PAC champions in soccer and volleyball have received automatic bid to NCAA Division III playoff action this week, as brackets and matchups were announced by the NCAA this morning. In NCAA D-III men's soccer tournament action, PAC champion Thomas More (17-2-1) will travel to Pittsburgh to face Carnegie Mellon (14-2-1) in an opening round contest this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PAC women's soccer champion Washington & Jefferson is also on the road this weekend, as the Presidents (12-6-2) head to Grand Rapids, Mich., to face Calvin College (13-4-1) this Friday in the NCAA D-III women's soccer tournament first round. In volleyball, PAC champion Thomas More (28-10) heads to Saint Louis for a first round NCAA D-III Tournament matchup on Thursday against St. Mary's (Minn.) (21-9) for a 6 p.m. EST (5 p.m. CST) game hosted at Washington University.
 

TMC TOPS W&J 1-0 FOR FIRST PAC CROWN (11/8/09)
An Aaron Osborne goal off an assist from Joey Tensing just 7:50 into the game proved to be all Thomas More College needed on Sunday, as the top-seeded Saints (17-2-1) captured their first-ever PAC Men's Soccer Championship by virtue of a 1-0 home victory over third-seeded Washington & Jefferson College at The Bank of Kentucky Field. TMC goalkeeper Zack Lawson made three saves in the shutout victory over the Presidents. With the win, the Saints secured the PAC's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Playoffs, with brackets scheduled to be announced tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 9) at 10 a.m.
