ADAMS HONORED AS SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (9/15/11)
The PAC has selected senior softball athlete Martha Adams of
Geneva and senior football player
Frank Gigler of Washington & Jefferson as
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athletes of the
Month for September 2011.
VALLONE, BAUGHMAN NAMED ECAC ALL-STARS (8/5/11)
A pair of PAC softball standouts have been honored with
selection to the
2011 ECAC Division III South All-Star team. Bethany
sophomore outfielder Maria Vallone was a first team
selection, while
Waynesburg senior pitcher/designated player
Amanda Baughman was tabbed to the second team as a utility
player.
PAC AWARDS TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP HONORS (5/26/11)
The PAC has announced the 2011 Spring PAC Team
Sportsmanship Award winners. The sportsmanship awards are sponsored by the
members of the PAC Student-Athlete-Advisory Council (SAAC), in
an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship
among the conference teams. The SAAC is a committee comprised of
student-athletes from each member institution assembled to
provide insight on the student-athlete experience.
PAC TEAMS CLOSE OUT 2011 POSTSEASON PLAY (5/13/11)
Both PAC softball teams participating in the postseason saw
their respective seasons come to an end on May 13. PAC champion
Bethany went 0-2 at the NCAA D-III Regional hosted by Adrian
College in Adrian, Mich., falling to
Baldwin-Wallace 6-3 on Thursday and
Alma 11-0 on Friday. Despite being the #8 seed, Geneva went
2-2 to finish in fourth place at the eight-team NCCAA National
Tournament in Botourt County, Va. The GTs opened play Thursday
by
shocking #1 seed and defending NAIA national champion Central
Baptist 4-2. On Friday, Geneva fell to North Greenville 3-1
and topped Cedarville 4-3 before being eliminated by Central
Baptist with an 8-0 loss.
SIX FROM PAC NAMED 2011 NFCA ALL-REGION (5/12/11)
Six PAC softball standouts have been honored with selection
to the 2011 NCAA
Division III All-Central Region teams, selected by the
National Fastpitch Coaches
Association (NFCA). Leading the was was 2011 PAC champion
Bethany with three selections, including both first team
honorees in senior 3B Andrea Thomas and sophomore OF
Maria Vallone. Senior 2B Chelsea Butler was a second
team honoree, as was Thomas More senior P Samantha
Ladenberger. Third team laurels went to Waynesburg senior
P/DP Amanda Baughman and Thomas More junior 1B
Brittany Wegman.
PAC ANNOUNCES 2011 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS (5/10/11)
The 2011 All-PAC Softball Teams
have been announced. PAC champion Bethany swept the top two
awards, as Bison senior 3B Andrea Thomas earned PAC
Player of the Year honors while veteran BC mentor Jan Forsty
was tabbed PAC Coach of the Year.
BETHANY TO FACE B-W IN ADRIAN REGIONAL (5/9/11)
The 2011 PAC softball champion Bethany Bison will travel to
Adrian, Mich. this week to compete in the eighth-team
NCAA
Division III Regional Tournament hosted by Adrian College.
The Bison (29-14), seeded sixth in the double-elimination
regional, will open play against third-seeded OAC champion
Baldwin-Wallace beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. The
regional champion will qualify to compete in the NCAA Division
III College Softball World Series in Salem, Va., on May 20-24.
GENEVA TO PLAY IN NCCAA NATIONAL TOURNEY (5/8/11)
The Geneva softball program
has
been selected to compete in the NCCAA National Tournament,
which begins Thursday (May 12) in Troutville, Va. The
eighth-seeded Golden Tornadoes will battle seven scholarship
programs for the title and will open play against top-seeded
Central Baptist (52-4) in the first round.
BETHANY CAPTURES 2011 PAC SOFTBALL TITLE (5/7/11)
An RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning by senior 2B
and tournament Most Outstanding Player Chelsea Butler
lifted Bethany to a
1-0 victory over Thomas More in the
championship game of the 2011 PAC
Softball Tournament. The top-seeded Bison, who allowed
just one run in three tournament games, earned their
conference-high 13th PAC softball crown. Earlier in the day, the
second-seeded and defending PAC champion Saints advanced to the
title tilt via a
5-4 victory which eliminated third seed
Westminster from the tournament. Bethany has now earned the PAC's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament
beginning next week.
BETHANY WINS PAIR ON DAY ONE OF PAC TOURNEY (5/6/11)
The top-seeded Bethany Bison posted a pair of wins to
advance to the conference finals on day one of the
2011 PAC Softball Championship
Tournament, hosted by the Bison in Bethany, W.Va. on May
6. BC opened the day with a
1-0 victory over fourth-seeded Waynesburg. In game two,
second-seeded Thomas More overcame a 2-0 deficit to posted a
5-4 decision over third seed Westminster. In the winner's
bracket final, the Bison used a pair of stellar defensive plays
in the sixth inning to save a
2-1 win over the Saints. Finally, the last game of the day
saw Westminster eliminate Waynesburg from the double-elimination
tournament with a
3-0 shutout. Saturday, Thomas More will face Westminster at
11 a.m. for the right to face Bethany for the 2011 PAC title at
1 p.m.
THIEL
PAIR NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT II
(5/5/11)
Two PAC student-athletes have been honored with selection to the
2011 Capital
One Academic All-District II College Division Softball teams.
Both conference representatives hailed from Thiel College,
as senior DP
Danielle Dwyer (3.96, business & media
communication) was a second team pick and senior C
Melissa
Rankin (3.59, communication sciences & disorders) was tabbed
to the third team.
BETHANY EARNS TOP SEED FOR 2011 PAC TOURNEY (5/4/11)
Bethany College has earned the top seed and will serve as
the host institution for the
2011 PAC Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for
this Friday-Saturday (May 6-7) in Bethany, W.Va. The Bison
(26-14), led by head coach Jan Forsty, finished the 2011
regular season with a 14-2 conference record. Bethany finished
ahead of second seed and defending PAC champion Thomas More
(24-11, 13-2 PAC) by virtue of a doubleheader sweep of the
Saints on April 29. Third seed Westminster (18-14, 11-5 PAC) and
fourth seed Waynesburg (16-14, 8-8 PAC) round out the
participants in the double-elimination tournament, with the
winner earning an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III
Softball Championship.
WC'S REDDINGER EARNS 400TH CAREER VICTORY (5/3/11)
Westminster College head softball coach Jan
Reddinger
won her 400th career game as a head coach in Monday's
doubleheader sweep of visiting Washington & Jefferson. The
Titans' 6-1 win in the first game clinched Reddinger's 400th win
and the 8-0 shutout in the second game was win 401. After
Monday's two wins, Reddinger owns a 20-year career record of
401-306-2 (.567), including a 345-245-2 (.584) record in her
15th year at Westminster. Reddinger previously coached at La
Roche with a 56-61 (.479) record from 1992-96. Reddinger is one
of 34 active NCAA Division III head coaches with at least 400
career wins and she is one of 51 all-time NCAA Division III
coaches to reach the 400-win milestone. |
