EIGHT PLAYERS NAMED TO NFCA CENTRAL TEAM (5/18/10)
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named
eight PAC softball players to the
2010 Louisville
Slugger/NFCA Division III Central Team. Garnering first team
honors were Thomas More sophomore IF Brittany Wegman and
Bethany freshman OF
Maria Vallone. On the second team
were
Bridgette Fauth, a senior C from Bethany, and
freshman DH
Katie Hughes of Westminster. Third team laurels went to
Westminster junior P

BETHANY TOPS UP-B, WILL HOST ECAC TOURNEY (5/12/10)
The top-seeded Bethany College softball team opened the
2010 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament on a winning
note Wednesday,
as the Bison blanked #8 seed Pitt-Bradford 5-0 in an opening
round contest. With the victory, BC will now host theremaining
three teams in a four-team, double-elimination tournament on
Saturday and Sunday in Bethany.
ALL-PAC TEAMS RELEASED; TMC DUO LAUDED (5/12/10)
The 2010 All-PAC Softball teams
have been released. PAC champion Thomas More swept the top two
conference awards, with sophomore 1B Brittany Wegman
earning 2010 PAC Player of the Year laurels, while second-year
Saint mentor Lindsay Bramhall was tabbed 2010 PAC Coach
of the Year.
THOMAS MORE, BETHANY EARN TOURNEY BIDS (5/10/10)
PAC softball tournament champion Thomas More and PAC regular
season softball champion Bethany were each been awarded
postseason tournament bids on Monday, May 10. The Saints (22-18)
earned the PAC's automatic bid to the 2010
NCAA Division III Tournament. TMC, led by second-year head
coach Lindsay Bramhall, will play at the Greencastle,
Ind., double-elimination regional hosted by DePauw University
May 13-17 and will open with a first round contest against Ohio
Northern University (37-5). The Bison (32-13), led by veteran
mentor Jan Forsty, are the top seed in the eight-team
ECAC Division III South Region Tournament this week. Bethany
will host eighth-seed Pitt-Bradford (19-19) in a play-in game on
Wednesday. With a win over UP-B, the Bison would then host a
four-team, double-elimination tournament in Bethany over the
weekend.
THOMAS MORE CLINCHES 2010 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP (5/8/10)
The Thomas More Saints captured their second consecutive PAC
softball title and third in the past four years at the
2010 PAC Softball
Championship Tournament, which concluded Saturday at
top-seeded Bethany College in Bethany, W.Va. The day opened with
the host Bison earning rematch of the 2009 PAC title tilt with
the Saints by posting a 3-0
shutout over third-seeded Westminster. Bethany then avenged a
Friday loss to the Saints by posting a
3-1 victory over Thomas
More, setting up a decisive winner-take-all third matchup
between the programs. The final contest belonged to TMC, which
rolled to an 8-1
victory over the Bison. With the win, the Saints earned the
PAC's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III Softball
Tournament, with brackets scheduled to be announced Monday at
noon.

SATURDAY AT 2010 PAC TOURNAMENT

The 2010 PAC Softball
Championship Tournament got underway on Friday, May 7 at
top-seeded Bethany College in Bethany, W.Va. The defending PAC
champion Thomas More Saints advanced to the PAC title game with
a pair of victories, as second-seeded TMC topped Westminster
5-2 in one first round
contest before recording an
8-0 five-inning shutout of the top-seeded Bison in the
winner's bracket final. Bethany had advanced to that game
courtesy of a come-from-behind
4-3 decision over
fourth-seeded Thiel. Westminster then eliminated the Tomcats
with an 8-0 victory in
six innings. Saturday, the Titans and Bison will face off at 11
a.m., with the winner advancing to face the Saints at 1 p.m. A
TMC loss in the 1 p.m. contest would necessitate another contest
for the crown at 3 p.m.
TWO NAMED TO 2010 ESPN THE MAGAZINE/CoSIDA ACADEMIC
ALL-DISTRICT SOFTBALL TEAM (5/6/10)
A total of eight PAC student-athletes (six men, two women)
were selected to the
2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-District teams for
baseball and
softball, released May 6 by the College Sports Information
Directors of America. In softball, Bethany senior IF
Ashley Marinacci and Wash. & Jeff. senior P
Georgia
Schumacher both earned third team honors in District 2. All
first team selections now move on to the Academic All-America
ballot.
TOP SEED BETHANY TO HOST 2010 PAC TOURNEY (5/1/10)
The Presidents' Athletic Conference has announced seeds and
pairings for the 2010 PAC
Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for
Friday-Saturday, May 7-8 at top-seeded Bethany College in
Bethany, W.Va. The winner of the four-team, double elimination
tournament will earn an automatic berth to the 2010 NCAA
Division III playoffs, beginning the week of May 10.
FORSTY EARNS 500TH WIN AT BETHANY (4/2/10)
Bethany College head softball coach Jan Forsty
earned her 500th career victory at the helm of the Bison program
with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Allegheny College on
Thursday. Coach Forsty owns
a 500-313-3 record for a .613 winning percentage during her 23
years at the school.
TMC SOFTBALL LEADS PAC PRESEASON POLL (3/18/10)
The Thomas More College softball squad
has been picked to repeat as
champions of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC),
according to a preseason poll of the conference's head coaches.
CU'S GREENWOOD HONORED BY PAC SAAC (10/20/09)
The PAC has announced that Samantha Greenwood of
Chatham University and Elisha Jones of Waynesburg
University have been named
Scholar-Athletes of the Month by the PAC Student-Athlete
Advisory Council (SAAC) for October, 2009.
W&J's SCHULTZ NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN
Washington & Jefferson College senior first baseman
Valerie Schultz has been selected to the
2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College
Division Softball Second Team, released by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on
May 27. Schultz, who recently graduated with a 3.90 grade-point
average with degrees in mathematics and accounting,
is the 22nd Academic All-American in W&J history.

BETHANY GOES 1-2 AT ECAC SOUTH TOURNEY
The Bethany College softball team concluded its season this
weekend with a third-place finish at the
2009 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament. The Bison
went 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament held at Juniata
College in Huntingdon, Pa., with all three games being one-run
contests. Saturday, the third-seeded Bison
were hurt by seven errors in a 7-6 opening round loss to #2
Centenary,
but rebounded later in the day to oust top-seeded Juniata
with a 1-0 victory.
The season ended for BC on Sunday with another 7-6 defeat to
Centenary, this time in eight innings.
THOMAS MORE PLACES 4TH AT NCAA REGIONAL
2009 PAC softball champion Thomas More College was
eliminated with a 2-2 record of day three of the
2009 NCAA Division III
Softball Tournament on May 9. The Saints opened the day by
completing a game with Hiram, which was suspended on May 8 with
the score tied 11-11 after nine innings due to darkness. The
Saints remained alive by prevailing over the Terriers 13-11 in
10 innings. However, TMC's run came to an end later in the day
with an 8-2 loss to Defiance, placing the Saints in fourth place
in the seven-team regional at Greencastle, Ind.

their first loss in the double-elimination tournament, falling
2-0 to host and second seed DePauw. Later in the day, TMC
battled seventh seed Hiram into extra innings, with the game
finally being suspended due to darkness with the scored tied
11-11 after nine innings. The game will continue tomorrow (May
9) at 10 a.m., with the winner advancing to face Defiance at
approximately noon.

Softball Tournament on May 7 in dramatic fashion. After
falling behind 3-0 early, the sixth-seeded Saints rallied to tie
#3-seed Adrian 3-3 in the seventh to send the game to extra
innings. TMC then prevailed,
4-3, in 10 innings in the opening round contest. With the
opening round win in the seven-team, double-elimination
tournament, Thomas More will now face either #2 DePauw or #7
Hiram on Friday at noon

PAC PLACES FIVE ON 2009 ESPN THE MAGAZINE/ CoSIDA
ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS
A total of five PAC student-athletes have been selected to the
2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams
for
softball, released on May 7 by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Three
senior PAC players earned first team recognition: Grove City IF
Amy Fisher
(3.80 GPA, mathematics), W&J IF Valerie Schultz (3.89,
mathematics) and Waynesburg P
Autumn Minor (4.0, biology/pre-med). Second team laurels
went to Grove City senior OF

Ashley Whipkey (3.94, elementary instruction).All three first team
