SNAVELY NAMED PAC SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (4/15/10)
Senior volleyball player
Brandi Snavely of Geneva College has been
named PAC Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month
for April 2010.
CHATHAM HIRES CONSUEGRA AS NEW COACH (3/5/10)
Chatham University
has announced the hiring of Kristin (Hozak) Consuegra as
its new head volleyball coach. She replaces Frank
Stackiewicz, who resigned after two seasons. Consuegra comes
to Chatham from Division II Indiana (Pa.), where she served as
an assistant volleyball coach. She is a 2008 graduate of PAC
member Saint Vincent College, where was
a four-year starter as a member of the Bearcat women’s
volleyball team where she led the Bearcats to two consecutive
ECAC Division II championships in 2006 and 2007 playing for her
mother (and now PAC coaching rival) Sue Hozak.

FALL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDEES RELEASED (12/10/09)
The Presidents’ Athletic
Conference (PAC) has announced the
PAC Team Sportsmanship Award
winners for Fall 2009 sports. The PAC Team Sportsmanship
Award was started in the 2008-09 sports season, and is an effort
to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among
conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC
Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and is presented to one
team in each of the 19 PAC-sponsored varsity sports.
TMC'S CORBELLO NAMED HM ALL-AMERICAN (11/18/09)
Thomas More College sophomore middle hitter Brandi
Corbello
was named honorable mention All-America today by the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Last week
she was named first team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference
(PAC) and first team All-Great Lakes Region.
PAC VBALL TEAMS FALL IN POSTSEASON PLAY (11/14/09)
PAC soccer and volleyball teams had a rough time in
postseason play this week, as all three conference NCAA
representatives dropped opening round games.
Thomas More men's soccer dropped a
4-2 decision at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, while
W&J women's soccer was defeated at Calvin
4-0 on Friday.
Thomas More volleyball won its opening set against St.
Mary's (Minn.) on Thursday, but could not hold on as the Saints
were defeated
3-1 in the opening round match at Washington University in
St. Louis Thursday. In ECAC playoff action, Saint Vincent
volleyball
opened play with a 3-2 first round victory at Penn State-Behrend
Wednesday,
before falling at top-seeded DeSales 3-1 on Saturday.
Finally,
Grove
City women's soccer suffered a
2-1
setback to Behrend in an ECAC first round match in Erie on
Wednesday.
TMC'S CORBELLO NAMED AVCA ALL-REGION (11/14/09)
Thomas More volleyball standout
Brandi Corbello has been named to the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Great Lakes
region team. Corbello, a 5-8 sophomore outside hitter who
helped lead the Saints to the 2009 PAC title, was an All-PAC
first team selection.
THOMAS MORE HEADS TO ST. LOUIS FOR NCAAs (11/9/09)
All three PAC champions in soccer and volleyball have
received automatic bid to NCAA Division III playoff action this
week, as brackets and matchups were announced by the NCAA this
morning. In volleyball, PAC champion Thomas More (28-10) heads
to Saint Louis for a first round
NCAA D-III Tournament matchup on Thursday against St. Mary's (Minn.)
(21-9) for a 6:30 p.m. EST (5:30 p.m. CST) game hosted at Washington
University. In
NCAA D-III men's soccer tournament action, PAC champion
Thomas More (17-2-1) will travel to Pittsburgh to face Carnegie
Mellon (14-2-1) in an opening round contest this Saturday at
1:30 p.m. PAC women's soccer champion Washington & Jefferson is
also on the road this weekend, as the Presidents (12-6-2) head
to Grand Rapids, Mich., to face Calvin College (13-4-1) this
Friday in
the
NCAA D-III women's soccer tournament first round.
THOMAS MORE SWEEPS THIEL FOR TITLE (11/7/09)
Top-seeded Thomas More College captured their second PAC
volleyball title today, as the Saints swept Thiel 3-0 (25-22,
25-14, 25-22) to capture the 2009 title at the Connor
Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Ky. Sophomore OH Brandi
Corbello led the Saint offensive attack with 16 kills. With the
victory, head coach John Spinney and the Saint spikers
earned the PAC's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III
playoffs, beginning next week. Following the match, the
2009 All-PAC Volleyball teams and
postseason award winners were announced. 2009 PAC Player of the
Year honors went to TMC sophomore Emily Bohman. Bethany
swept the final two major awards, as Jessica Zavatchen
was named 2009 PAC Freshman of the Year and Bison mentor
Courtney Kline was tabbed 2009 PAC Coach of the Year.
TMC, THIEL ADVANCE TO 2009 PAC FINALS (11/6/09)
Top-seeded Thomas More and second-seeded Thiel will battle
on Saturday (Nov. 7) at 4 p.m. for the
2009 PAC Volleyball Championship after both teams posted
semifinal wins in Crestview Hills, Ky., on Friday night. The
Saints (27-10) split a pair of close sets with #4 Washington &
Jefferson (16-16), before taking control to post a 3-1 win. In
the nightcap, the Tomcats (23-10) dropped the opening set to #3
seed and two-time defending PAC champion Westminster, before
rolling off three straight set wins to advance.
THIEL DUO NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (11/5/09)
A
pair of Thiel College volleyball standouts have been named
to the
2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Volleyball teams,
released today by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Junior OH
Madison Chylik (3.97 GPA, elementary education) was
tabbed to the first team, while classmate
Danielle Dwyer
(3.90, communication) was a second team honoree. Chylik will now
move onto the Academic All-America volleyball ballot later this
month.
WESTMINSTER PICKED ON TOP IN 2009 PAC POLL (9/9/09)
Westminster College has been picked to repeat as Presidents'
Athletic Conference (PAC) volleyball champions in 2009,
according to a preseason poll of
league volleyball coaches. The two-time defending champion
Titans were followed in the poll by Thomas More, W&J, Thiel,
Grove City, Bethany and Waynesburg (tie) and Chatham.
GC'S BLAKE NAMED NCCAA ALL-AMERICAN
Geneva sophomore standout Adriane Blake has been
named to the
National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA)
All-America second team, making her the first volleyball
All-American in school history. Blake ranked second in the
nation among NCCAA schools with 450 kills (3.95 kps).

For the second consecutive season,
Westminster volleyball will be on the road for the opening
round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Westminster (24-10) will face Ohio Northern (30-4) in the first
round of the
NCAA Division III Volleyball playoffs on Thursday at 6 p.m.
at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, with the winner
facing the Wittenberg (32-2)/Muskingum (23-6) winner on Friday
at Wittenberg. W&J EARNS ECAC BID, HEADS TO
PS-BEHREND
Washington & Jefferson volleyball has earned a bid to the
2008 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament. The President spikers
will head to Erie at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 12)
for a first-round ECAC contest at Penn State-Behrend. WESTMINSTER WINS 2008 VOLLEYBALL TITLE; 2008
ALL-PAC VOLLEYBALL TEAMS RELEASED
The Westminster College spikers
captured the 2008 volleyball crown with a
3-1 victory over Thomas
More on Saturday, marking the second consecutive PAC volleyball
crown for the Titans. Westminster has now earned the PAC's
automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III playoffs, with
brackets and pairings to be announced on Monday, November 10.
The All-PAC volleyball teams
were also released late Saturday following the championship
match, as Waynesburg senior OH Laurie Lindner was named
PAC Player of the year, Thomas More S Michelle Clifford
was tabbed as PAC Freshman of the Year, while Coach of the Year
laurels went to Westminster mentor Tammy Swearingen. |
