BC'S HOFFMAN NAMED PAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE

The PAC has announced that senior
Academic All-American volleyball standout Tiffany Hoffman has
been named Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month
for December 2011.

ALL-AMERICANS (12/14/11)
Three Bethany volleyball standouts - junior
setter Jessica Zavatchen and seniors Tiffany Hoffman
and Megan Hoffman - have been selected to the
Capital One 2011
Academic All-America Division III volleyball teams, released by
the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). Zavatchen (4.0 GPA, pre-physical
therapy) was a first team honoree, while Tiffany Hoffman (3.92 GPA,
biology) was tabbed to the second team and Megan Hoffman (3.93 GPA,
biology) to the third team.
The Bison were the only program in the nation to put three players
on the Academic All-American teams, which consisted of 18 total
players, and one of only three schools with multiple members on the
teams. A First Team All-PAC selection, Zavatchen set the Bethany
single-season (1,468) and career assists (3,849) records this
season, as she led the Bison to a school-record 31 wins and their
second consecutive ECAC Division III South Region Tournament
championship. Tiffany Hoffman was also a First Team All-PAC choice,
while Megan Hoffman was a four-year starter for the Bison spikers.
PAC RELEASES 2011 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
(11/17/11)
The 2011 All-PAC Volleyball teams
have been released. The 2011 PAC Player of the Year is junior setter
Deanna Briody of PAC champion Geneva, while Thomas More
libero Kelsey Castiglioni was tabbed as PAC Freshman of the
Year. 2011 PAC Coach of the Year laurels went to Geneva co-head
coaches Wendy Smith and Curt Conser.
PAC QUINTET NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (11/10/11)
Five PAC volleyball standouts have been honored with selection
to the
2011 Capital One Academic All-District Division III Volleyball teams,
released today by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Three Bethany
spikers: seniors Megan Hoffman (3.93 GPA, biology) and
Tiffany Hoffman (3.92 GPA, biology) and junior Jessica
Zavatchen (4.0 GPA, pre-physical therapy) earned All-District II
first team laurels. In District IV, first team honorees included
Thiel junior Kelly Barzak (3.78 GPA, elementary education and
Westminster sophomore Rebecca Riemer (3.96 GPA, biology). All
five PAC standouts now advance to the
NCAA Division III
Academic All-America national ballot.
GENEVA DROPS THRILLER IN NCAA 1ST ROUND (11/10/11)
The
2011 PAC champion Geneva volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2
decision to OAC power Heidelberg today in the opening round of
the 2011
NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship tournament at Calvin
College in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Golden Tornadoes (27-9) took the
first set against the 'Berg and led 2-1 after three sets. In the
fifth and final set, the GTs had a pair of match points at 14-13 and
15-14, but could not close out the match as Heidelberg (32-6) ripped
off three straight points to win 17-15 and advance to the NCAA
second round.
PAC TEAMS POST SWEEP IN ECAC FIRST ROUND (11/9/11)
In the
2011 ECAC Division III South Volleyball Tournament, both #2
Bethany and #8 Saint Vincent posted first round wins.
The Bison had little trouble sweeping #7 Marywood 3-0 and will
now host the weekend "Final Four"
thanks to the Bearcats, who upset top-seeded DeSales 3-2 in
another first round match. Bethany will battle #3 Swarthmore in one
semifinal at Hummel Fieldhouse, while Saint Vincent will face #4
Moravian in the other semi. The semifinals will take place on
Saturday (Nov. 12) with match times currently TBA.
PAC TEAMS EARN ECAC FALL TOURNEY BERTHS
(11/7/11)
The PAC has had four teams earn berths into this week's ECAC
Division III South Tournaments for volleyball and soccer. PAC
runner-up Bethany (28-6) is the second seed in the eight-team
2011 ECAC D-III South Region Volleyball Tournament and will host
seventh-seeded Marywood (17-11) in a first round match Wednesday
(Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. The defending ECAC champion Bison are joined in
the tourney by Saint Vincent, whom Bethany defeated for the 2010
ECAC crown. The Bearcats (21-11) are seeded eighth and will travel
to top-seeded DeSales (27-6) for an opening round match Wednesday at
seven. First round winners will advance to the weekend "final four"
in each sport, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
GENEVA LEARNS NCAA D-III
CHAMPIONSHIP SLATE (11/7/11)
Three PAC fall sport champion learned their tournament fate
today as the NCAA announced the 2011 Division III Championship
brackets in the sports of women's volleyball and men's & women's
soccer. In the
2011 NCAA
Division III Volleyball Championship, PAC champion Geneva (27-8)
will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a first-round matchup against
OAC champion Heidelberg (31-6) at Calvin College in Grand Rapids,
Mich., on Thursday (Nov. 10) at 12:30 p.m.
GENEVA CAPTURES FIRST-EVER PAC TITLE (11/5/11)
The Geneva Golden
Tornadoes captured their first-ever PAC championship in any sport on
November 5, as top-seeded Geneva overcame an opening set loss to
defeat second-seeded Bethany
3-1
(23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22)
in the title match of the 2011 PAC
Volleyball Championship Tournament.
With the victory, the GTs (27-8) have earned the PAC's automatic bid
to next week's NCAA Division III Championships.
GENEVA, BETHANY ADVANCE TO PAC FINALS (11/4/11)
Top-seeded Geneva and second-seeded Bethany each posted
semifinal wins on November 4 to advance to the finals of the
2011
PAC Volleyball Championship Tournament, being hosted by Geneva in
Beaver Falls, Pa. The host Golden Tornadoes, playing in their
first-ever PAC Tournament after gaining NCAA Division III active
membership status this summer, swept rival and fifth-seeded
Westminster
3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19). The second match was a
different story as the Bison took a 2-0 lead of third-seed and
two-time defending PAC champion Thomas More, only to see the Saints
rally to tie the score 2-2. The fifth set was tied 13-13 when
Bethany won the final two points to clinch the
3-2 win (25-18,
29-27, 19-25, 18-25, 15-13) and a berth in the PAC finals, which
will take place at Metheny Fieldhouse at Geneva on Saturday (Nov. 5)
at 4 p.m. The winner of Saturday's final will receive the PAC's
automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship playoffs
which begin next week.
PAC FALL TOURNAMENTS GET UNDERWAY (11/1/11)
The 2011 PAC Championship Tournaments in the fall sports of
women's soccer and
volleyball got underway on Tuesday,
November 1. In PAC volleyball first round action, two-time defending
PAC champion and #3 seed Thomas More overcame a 2-0 deficit to edge
#6 Saint Vincent
3-2, while #5 Westminster posted a minor upset with a
3-2 victory
at #4 Thiel to reach the PAC semifinals for the 10th straight year.
PAC RELEASES 2011 VB TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE (10/29/11)
The PAC
has announced the schedules for the
2011 PAC Championship Tournaments in the sports of men's & women's
soccer and women's volleyball. The tournaments, which take place
next week on campus sites, will crown the 2011 PAC champions in all
three sports that will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division
III Championships the following week (Nov. 10-12). Admission for all
PAC Championship events is $5 for adults, $2 for students and $1 for
programs. PAC and institutional passes are not accepted at PAC
championship events.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER, 2011 (10/18/11)
Junior basketball/volleyball standout Devin McGrath of
Saint Vincent College has been named
PAC Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October
2011. Each month, SAAC members at a PAC school nominate a
student-athlete to highlight based on academic and athletic
accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their
respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year.
Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or
higher and be actively involved on his or her campus community.
THOMAS MORE PICKED TO REPEAT IN 2011 POLL (8/31/11)
Thomas More has been picked to repeat
as PAC volleyball champions in 2011, according to a preseason poll of
league volleyball coaches. Fourth-year head
volleyball coach John Spinney looks to guide the Saints to
their third straight PAC title and the program’s 10th NCAA Division
III Tournament appearance. Thomas More earned three first-place
votes and 88 points in the conference poll to top second place Thiel
who had four first place votes (83), followed by Geneva (77),
Westminster (75), Bethany (65), Saint Vincent (60), Grove City (36),
Washington & Jefferson (29), Waynesburg (23) and Chatham (14).
2011 PAC FALL SPORTS
PREVIEWS: VOLLEYBALL (8/23/11)
For
six weekdays leading up to the September 1 competition start
date, the PAC will be releasing 2011 conference previews for all
varsity fall sports. Today we look at PAC volleyball, where the
quantity of quality teams has never been stronger. Two-time
defending PAC champion Thomas More has eight returning players
and will look for a "three-peat" this fall. However, the Saints
will again face quality competition from several conference
foes, including 2010 league runner-up Thiel, which has five
starters returning. Other challengers include Bethany, which
brings back 12 returners from last year's ECAC South
championship squad; Saint Vincent, which is coming off its most
successful run in program history last year; and Westminster,
which is looking to make another run at the PAC championship
title. Also, Geneva cruised through the PAC schedule with a
record of 16-2 last year and will look to make an impact this
year as an NCAA Division III active member. The complete

THREE PAC TEAMS GET AVCA ACADEMIC HONORS (7/21/11)
Three PAC volleyball programs - Geneva,
Thiel and
Waynesburg - are among 88 Division III teams and
481 total programs at all levels honored with the
2010-11 Team Academic Award by the
American Volleyball Coaches
Association (AVCA). The award honors collegiate volleyball
teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the
school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team
grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Thiel College senior volleyball standout
Madison Chylik has been selected to the
2010 ESPN
Academic All-America College Division Volleyball Third Team,
released today by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Chylik, an
elementary education major from Valley View, Ohio with a 3.98
cumulative GPA and a six-time member of the Dean’s List, is a
four-year letterwinner in volleyball and a two-year letterwinner
in softball. She is also a five-time PAC Academic Honor Roll
selection. Chylik helped lead the Tomcat spikers to their second
straight 20-win season in 2010. Earlier this year, she became
the school’s all-time leader in assists. Last season she was
named to the All-PAC first team and was a second team selection
in 2010..
2010 ALL-PAC VOLLEYBALL TEAMS RELEASED (11/10/10)
The 2010 All-PAC Volleyball
Teams and postseason award winners have been released.
Conference champion Thomas More swept the MVP and Coach of the
Year honors, given to Saint senior OH Alyssa Carlotta and
third-year TMC mentor John Spinney, respectively. Thiel
libero Jenna Samsa was tabbed as PAC Freshman of the
Year.
SIX PAC TEAMS EARN ECAC TOURNEY BERTHS (11/8/10)
Six PAC soccer and volleyball teams have been selected to
compete in the
2010 ECAC Division III South Region Tournaments.
Saint
Vincent is the top-seed in the eight-team
ECAC D-III South Volleyball Tournament and will host #8 Penn
State-Behrend at the Carey Center Wednesday (Nov. 10) at 7 p.m.
If the Bearcats win, they will host the semifinals and finals in
Latrobe this weekend.
Bethany volleyball is also at home
Wednesday night, as the third-seeded Bison host #6 Stevenson at
7 p.m. Three PAC teams are in action in the
ECAC D-III South Men's Soccer Tournament, with two facing
each other on Wednesday. #2
Washington & Jefferson will host #7
Grove City in a first-round contest at 6 p.m., while #8
Bethany
will play top-seeded Penn State-Behrend in Erie at 1:30 p.m.
Finally, in
ECAC D-III Women's Soccer Tournament action,
Grove City is
the second seed and will host a first round match against Misericordia at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
PAC TEAMS HIT THE ROAD FOR NCAA PLAYOFFS (11/8/10)
All three PAC champions in the sports of soccer and
volleyball will be on the road for the opening round of the NCAA
Division III playoffs this week. In
men's soccer, PAC champion Thomas More (11-5-2) will face
Dominican (18-1-1) in a first round match Friday at 11 a.m., at Calvin College in
Grand Rapids, Mich. PAC
women's soccer champion Washington & Jefferson (14-5-1) will
face Illinois Wesleyan (16-1-3) in an opening round contest at
Denison University in Granville, Ohio on Saturday at 11 a.m. Finally, in
volleyball first round action, league champion Thomas More
(28-7) will travel to Atlanta and Emory University for a
first-round matchup against Southwestern (29-6) on Friday at
12:30 p.m.
FOUR TITLES AWARDED ON CHAMPIONSHIP SAT. (11/6/10)
It was "Championship Saturday" in the PAC on November 6, as
conference titles were awarded in men's & women's soccer and
volleyball, while in addition the football conference crown was
also clinched (see below). All three defending soccer/volleyball
champions from 2009 posted repeat performances and earned
automatic bids to next week's NCAA Division III Tournaments. In
men's soccer, #4 seed Thomas More
posted the tourney's third straight upset win, as the Saints
edged #3 Bethany
2-1 for their second straight league crown.
Women's soccer saw #2 Washington &
Jefferson earn its third straight PAC title, as the Presidents
broke open a scoreless halftime tie with three second half goals
to defeat #4 Westminster
3-0. Finally, top-seeded Thomas More rallied from an opening
set loss to defeat #2 Thiel
3-1 in the PAC volleyball title
match, giving the Saint spikers their third straight league
championship.
TMC, THIEL ADVANCE TO 2010 PAC TITLE MATCH (11/5/10)
A rematch of the 2009 PAC title match will be on tap
Saturday (Nov. 6), as top-seeded Thomas More and second-seeded
Thiel advanced to the finals of the
2010 PAC
Volleyball Championship Tournament for the second
consecutive year. The Saints had little trouble with #4 Saint
Vincent, winning
3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-15), while the Tomcats also won
3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-17) over #3 Westminster Friday night
at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Ky.

VOLLEYBALL TOP SEEDS EACH WIN AS
2010 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT GETS UNDERWAY (11/2/10)
The PAC Volleyball Championship Tournament got
underway on Tuesday, Nov. 2 , as both higher seeded volleyball
squads advanced to the weekend semifinals. The match of the
night was in Latrobe, where fourth-seeded Saint Vincent won its
first-ever PAC Tournament contest with a thrilling five-set 3-2
win over fifth seed Bethany, including a 19-17 advantage in the
final set. The Bearcats will now face top-seeded Thomas More
Friday at 6 p.m. In the other first round match, third seed
Westminster eliminated sixth-seeded Washington & Jefferson
3-1 to advance to the other PAC Tournament semifinal against
#2 Thiel Friday at 8 p.m.
PAC ANNOUNCES 2010 TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE (10/30/10)
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC)
has announced seeds and pairings
for the 2010 PAC Championship Tournaments in the sports of men's
& women's soccer and women's volleyball. All three
tournaments will take place on campus sites next week, with all
three PAC champions earning automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA
Division III playoffs, which begin the week of November 8.
HOZAK, SWEARINGEN HIT COACHING MILESTONES (9/29/10)
A pair of PAC volleyball head coaches posted milestone victories
this week. Saint Vincent coach Sue Hozak
posted her 500th career win Tuesday night at Grove City,
while Westminster mentor Tammy Swearingen
tallied her 400th career victory with a three-set home win
over Chatham Saturday.
THOMAS MORE PICKED TO REPEAT IN 2010 POLL (8/31/10)
Thomas More has been picked to repeat
as PAC volleyball champions in 2010,
according to a preseason poll of
league volleyball coaches. The Saints, led by head coach
John Spinney, garnered seven of 10 possible first place
votes to finish with 87 points in the poll. After Thomas More,
2009 PAC runner-up Thiel was predicted to finish second,
receiving the other three first place votes and 79 points
overall. Rounding out the preseason poll are Saint Vincent (70),
Westminster (61), Bethany (49), Washington & Jefferson (39),
Grove City (30), Waynesburg (23), and Chatham (12). Geneva, an
NCAA Division III provisional member, was picked to go 12-6
against PAC teams in 2010.
2010 PAC PREVIEW: TMC SPIKERS LEAD THE WAY (8/27/10)
PAC volleyball has been controlled at the top by two
programs the past four years, with Thomas More (2006, '09) and
Westminster (2007, '08) each capturing a pair of conference
titles. Last year, the top-seeded Saints won the crown with a
three-set sweep of upstart Thiel, who earned the second seed.
Among the programs set to challenge the defending champions in
2010 is Saint Vincent, in its first year of NCAA D-III
eligibility after posting a couple of ECAC titles during its
provisional membership period. The
2010 PAC Volleyball Preview is now online, along with the
2010 PAC volleyball composite schedule,
while the preseason coaches poll will be released early next
week.

CHATHAM HIRES CONSUEGRA AS NEW COACH (3/5/10)
Chatham University
has announced the hiring of Kristin (Hozak) Consuegra as
its new head volleyball coach. She replaces Frank
Stackiewicz, who resigned after two seasons. Consuegra comes
to Chatham from Division II Indiana (Pa.), where she served as
an assistant volleyball coach. She is a 2008 graduate of PAC
member Saint Vincent College,
where was
a four-year starter as a member of the Bearcat women’s
volleyball team where she led the Bearcats to two consecutive ECAC Division II championships in 2006 and 2007 playing for her
mother (and now PAC coaching rival) Sue Hozak.

FALL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDEES RELEASED (12/10/09)
The Presidents’ Athletic
Conference (PAC) has announced the
PAC Team Sportsmanship
Award winners for Fall 2009 sports. The PAC Team
Sportsmanship Award was started in the 2008-09 sports season,
and is an effort to recognize and encourage positive
sportsmanship among conference teams. The award is sponsored by
the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and is presented
to one team in each of the 19 PAC-sponsored varsity sports.
TMC'S CORBELLO NAMED HM ALL-AMERICAN (11/18/09)
Thomas More College sophomore middle hitter Brandi
Corbello
was named honorable mention All-America today by the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Last week
she was named first team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference
(PAC) and first team All-Great Lakes Region.
PAC VBALL TEAMS FALL IN POSTSEASON PLAY (11/14/09)
PAC soccer and volleyball teams had a rough time in
postseason play this week, as all three conference NCAA
representatives dropped opening round games.
Thomas More men's soccer dropped a
4-2 decision at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, while
W&J women's soccer was defeated at Calvin
4-0 on Friday.
Thomas More volleyball won its opening set against St.
Mary's (Minn.) on Thursday, but could not hold on as the Saints
were defeated
3-1 in the opening round match at Washington University in
St. Louis Thursday. In ECAC playoff action, Saint Vincent
volleyball
opened play with a 3-2 first round victory at Penn State-Behrend
Wednesday,
before falling at top-seeded DeSales 3-1 on Saturday.
Finally,
Grove
City women's soccer suffered a
2-1
setback to Behrend in an ECAC first round match in Erie on
Wednesday.
TMC'S CORBELLO NAMED AVCA ALL-REGION (11/14/09)
Thomas More volleyball standout
Brandi Corbello has been named to the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Great Lakes
region team. Corbello, a 5-8 sophomore outside hitter who
helped lead the Saints to the 2009 PAC title, was an All-PAC
first team selection.
THOMAS MORE HEADS TO ST. LOUIS FOR NCAAs (11/9/09)
All three PAC champions in soccer and volleyball have
received automatic bid to NCAA Division III playoff action this
week, as brackets and matchups were announced by the NCAA this
morning. In volleyball, PAC champion Thomas More (28-10) heads
to Saint Louis for a first round
NCAA D-III Tournament matchup on Thursday against St. Mary's
(Minn.) (21-9) for a 6:30 p.m. EST (5:30 p.m. CST) game hosted
at Washington University. In
NCAA D-III men's soccer tournament action, PAC champion
Thomas More (17-2-1) will travel to Pittsburgh to face Carnegie
Mellon (14-2-1) in an opening round contest this Saturday at
1:30 p.m. PAC women's soccer champion Washington & Jefferson is
also on the road this weekend, as the Presidents (12-6-2) head
to Grand Rapids, Mich., to face Calvin College (13-4-1) this
Friday in the
NCAA D-III women's soccer tournament first round.
THOMAS MORE SWEEPS THIEL FOR TITLE (11/7/09)
Top-seeded Thomas More College
captured their second PAC volleyball title today, as the
Saints swept Thiel 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-22) to capture the 2009
title at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Ky.
Sophomore OH Brandi Corbello led the Saint offensive attack with
16 kills. With the victory, head coach John Spinney and
