PAC HOOPS PAIR NAMED
ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (2/2/12)
Two PAC basketball standouts have been selected to the
2012 Capital One
Division III Academic All-District teams, released today by the
College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA). On the
women's side, senior
Brittany Sedlock (4.0 GPA,
mathematics education) of Saint Vincent, the 2011 PAC Player of the
Year, was a first team selection in District IV. She was joined by
Thomas More junior standout Allison Long
(3.92 GPA, secondary
education), who was tabbed to the first team in District II. Both
players now move to the Division III Academic All-America national
ballot, with teams to be released later this month.
RACE REMAINS KNOTTED AFTER TMC, SVC WINS (2/1/12)
2011 NCAA tournament participants Thomas More and Saint Vincent
appear headed for a first-place showdown in Kentucky on February 15,
as both teams won handily in home contests on February 1 to remain
tied for first in the PAC. The five-time defending PAC champion
Saints rolled past visiting Bethany
85-52,
while the Bearcats had little trouble in an
80-49
decision over Thiel. Waynesburg solidified its hold on third place
via a
71-52 road decision at Chatham. Westminster posted its third
straight win with a
62-55
home victory over W&J, while Grove City bested Geneva in a
46-36

NO CHANGES AT TO P
OF PAC STANDINGS (1/28/12)
With three
weeks to play in the
2011-12 regular season, there were no changes at the top of the PAC
men's and women's basketball standings following a full slate of
conference contests on January 28.On the women's side, Thomas More
and Saint Vincent remain tied for first, as the Saints defeated W&J
83-64
while the Bearcats were victorious at Grove City,
81-52.
Third-place Waynesburg bounced back from a pair of recent setbacks
by winning handily at home,
78-42,
over Geneva. Bethany held off an upset-minded Chatham squad, as the
Bison overcame a halftime deficit to edge the Cougars
77-67.
Finally, Westminster trailed by two with 1:18 to play, but closed
the game on an 8-0 run to win
61-55
at Thiel.
SVC AND TMC REMAIN ON TOP OF STANDINGS (1/25/12)
PAC basketball heads into the final four weeks of the regular
season and without any major changes in the standings. In
women’s action, Jenn Cantella nailed a jumper as time expired
to lift Westminster over Waynesburg
68-66.
Bethany used a 20-5 run at the end of the first half and maintained
control to secure a
66-43
win over Geneva. Washington & Jeffer son defeated Thiel
66-51,
while Thomas More was victorious over Grove City
66-52.
Saint Vincent’s Emily Fenton eclipsed the 1,000-point mark
for her career as the Bearcats rolled to a
74-45
win over Chatham.

SECOND HALF OF PAC SCHEDULE UNDERWAY (1/21/12)
The second half of the 2011-12 PAC basketball regular schedule got
underway with a full slate of games on Saturday, Jan. 21.
The women's standings received a shake-up at the top following
Thiel's
64-62 home upset of Waynesburg, causing the Yellow Jackets to
fall out of a three-way tie for first place with co-leaders Thomas
More and Saint Vincent. The Saints rolled past Geneva
78-36,
while the Bearcats triumphed over Westminster
66-44.
In other women's finals, Bethany used a late scoring burst to edge
Grove City
67-61,
while Washington & Jefferson was the lone road victor of the day, as
the Presidents prevailed
85-59
at Chatham.

REMAIN
ON TOP AT 8-1 (1/18/12)
PAC basketball action on Wednesday, January 18 saw the first half of
the 2011-12 schedule come to a close. The top three teams on the
women’s side remain in a three-way tie for first place at 8-1.
Saint Vincent defeated Bethany on the road by a score of
70-45. Waynesburg held off Washington & Jefferson for a
47-43 win. Thomas More cruised to a
68-30 win over Chatham. Other women's games saw Westminster
defeat Geneva,
55-43 and Thiel was a
65-53 victor at Grove City.

SAINT VINCENT HANDS TMC FIRST PAC LOSS
(1/14/12)
PAC basketball action on Saturday, January 14 resulted in a
tightening of the women's race at the top of the league standings. In a rematch of the 2011
PAC title game, Saint Vincent handed Thomas More its first PAC
defeat of the season with a 68-65 decision. That game, coupled with
Waynesburg winning easily at home over Grove City
79-51, leaves the
Saints, Bearcats and Yellow Jackets in a three-way tie for first
place. Other women's games saw Bethany edge Westminster on the road,
65-62. W&J was a
62-42 victor at Geneva, while Thiel defeated
Chatham 73-55.
TMC CAPTURES FIRST PLACE SHOWDOWN (1/11/12)
The PAC basketball schedule for Wednesday, January 11 was
highlighted by a matchup of unbeaten conference teams, with sole
possession of first place on the line. The women's marquee matchup
saw five-time defending PAC champion Thomas More stay atop the
conference mountain, as the Saints overcame a halftime deficit to
hand Waynesburg its first league loss with a
74-58
home final. Saint Vincent joined Waynesburg one game behind TMC
following a
69-33
road win at Geneva. Other women's finals included Grove City edging
W&J at home,
68-65. Bethany recorded a
76-63
home win over Thiel, while
Westminster rolled past Chatham
57-38.

IN PAC ACTION (1/7/12)
The first Saturday of 2012 featured a full slate of PAC basketball
doubleheaders with all 19 teams in action. In the women’s race,
Waynesburg won its ninth game in a row beating Bethany
92-76
to move to 6-0 in PAC play. Defending PAC champion Thomas More used
a 34-14 run in the second half and never looked back defeating
Westminster
71-43.
Geneva used strong defense in the last minute of play to hold off
Thiel winning
57-56.
Saint Vincent used a strong second half to defeat Washington &
Jefferson
72-59, while Grove City cruised to a
62-36
win over Chatham.
THE START OF 2012 LEAVES TWO TEAMS ON TOP
(1/4/12)
The first date of PAC basketball games in 2012
took place on Wednesday, January 4 with all 19 teams in action. The
women’s race saw Waynesburg move to 5-0 after handing Saint Vincent
its first league loss,
59-53.
Defending PAC champion Thomas More was victorious against Thiel
winning 69-47. Washington & Jefferson raced to a
76-59
victory over Bethany. Geneva took its first league win over Chatham,
63-39, and Westminster beat Grove City
61-53.
THREE PAC
TEAMS STILL PERFECT IN LEAGUE (12/10/11)
The
final date of PAC basketball games in the 2011 calendar year took
place on Saturday, Dec. 10, as teams will not resume league play
until after the holidays on Wed., Jan. 4, 2012. The women's race remains jumbled at the
top, as three teams remained unbeaten in conference action entering
the holiday break. Defending PAC champion Thomas More had little
trouble handing Bethany its first league loss, as the Saints
prevailed on the road,
83-64.
Saint Vincent and Waynesburg also remained perfect in the conference
with wins, as the Bearcats used a balanced attack to win at Thiel,
79-66,
while the Yellow Jackets raced to an
81-54
decision over Chatham. In other action, Westminster used a quick
start to post its first win of the season at W&J,
65-49,
while Grove City was victorious at home over Geneva,
48-36.

Defending PAC champion
Thomas More defeated Washington & Jefferson
63-43. For the second-straight year there was late drama in New
Wilmington as Thiel notched a
57-52 overtime win over Westminster. A 20-0 run in the first
half helped spark Saint Vincent’s
73-53 win over Grove City. Waynesburg had a strong shooting
night that led them to a
78-28 victory over Geneva. Bethany was victorious on the road at
Chatham with a
72-48 win.

FIRST SATURDAY OF PAC BASKETBALL COMPLETE(12/3/11)
With a full slate of league games, 18
of the 19 PAC basketball teams competed this afternoon. The
women's schedule saw defending PAC champion Thomas More defeat Grove
City
71-29. Saint Vincent
used a strong second half to top Chatham
62-37. Waynesburg was able to hold off Westminster winning
60-56,
while

76-66 vs. Washington & Jefferson at home and Bethany cruised to

PAC NETWORK ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE CHANGE (12/2/11)
The PAC Sports Network has announced a change to its conference
basketball video webcast schedule. The Washington & Jefferson-Thiel
doubleheader scheduled for Saturday will not be webcast due to a
scheduling conflict. In its place, the network will carry the
Washington & Jefferson-Thomas More doubleheader on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

"PAC SPORTS NETWORK" RELEASES 12-DATE VIDEO
WEBCAST SCHEDULE OF 2011-12 PAC ACTION (11/22/11)
The "PAC Sports Network"
will broadcast a 12-date
schedule of PAC basketball doubleheaders and single games in
2011-12. The network, consisting of Western Pennsylvania
broadcasters Randy Gore, Justin Pyles and David
Singer, will produce live video webcasts covering all 10 PAC
members during the upcoming conference basketball season, beginning
with a doubleheader featuring Thomas More at Geneva on Wednesday,
Nov. 30, 2011. Webcast links will be available at the conference

The Thomas More College women’s basketball team and the Thiel
College men’s basketball team have been picked to capture the
2011-12 championships in the PAC, according to the
2011-12 PAC Preseason Basketball poll,
released today. Voters included conference head coaches and sports
information directors.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER, 2011 (10/18/11)
Junior basketball/volleyball standout Devin McGrath of
Saint Vincent College has been named
PAC Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October
2011. Each month, SAAC members at a PAC school nominate a
student-athlete to highlight based on academic and athletic
accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their
respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year.
Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or
higher and be actively involved on his or her campus community.
WESTMINSTER HIRES THIEM AS ASSISTANT COACH (8/5/11)
Westminster
has hired Jayme Thiem as a full-time assistant
women's basketball coach.
Thiem replaces Katie Miller who left Westminster after nine
years to become the head coach at Kalamazoo College.
Thiem, a native of Cold Spring, Ky.,
spent the last two years as an assistant women's basketball
coach at Thomas More College, where she was a two-year
All-American before graduating in December 2009.
GENEVA TABS LORI WYNN FOR HEAD COACH POST (8/1/11)
Geneva College
has
announced the hiring of Lori Wynn as the new head coach
of the Golden Tornado women's basketball program. She
replaces Renee Drake, who resigned last month after two
years in the position. Wynn has spent 18 years as a collegiate
head coach, including the last eight as head coach at NAIA
member Malone University. She began her collegiate playing
career at Geneva briefly in 1988 before transferring to and
graduating from Houghton (N.Y.) College.
RECTENWALD HIRED AS NEW CHATHAM COACH (7/28/11)
Chatham
has hired Sandra Rectenwald to fill the position
of head basketball coach, starting in the 2011-12 school year.
She replaces Mark Katarski, who resigned to become an
assistant coach at NCAA Division I Niagara. Rectenwald comes to
Chatham from Swarthmore College, where she served as the
Assistant Coach for three years. She is a 2003 graduate of
Carnegie Mellon where she was a four-year member of the Tartan
basketball team.
Rectenwald
was selected for the UAA
All-Academic team three times, and was a two-time captain for
CMU.
PAC PAIR LAUDED IN WBCA D-III ACADEMIC TOP 25 (7/12/11)
The top two PAC women's basketball teams in the 2010-11 season -
conference champion
Thomas More and runner-up
Saint Vincent, both NCAA Tournament qualifiers - have
equally distinguished themselves in the classroom. Both programs
have been honored in the
2010-11 NCAA Division III Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll
released by the
Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA), which honors
teams
that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs)
inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the
entire season. The
Saints are ranked 15th (3.484 team GPA) on the list, while
the
Bearcats are 24th (3.433 team GPA).
DRAKE RESIGNS AS GENEVA HEAD COACH (7/8/11)
Geneva head women's basketball coach Renee Drake
has
resigned from her position due to family obligations. Drake,
a 1,000-point scorer for the Golden Tornadoes during her playing
days, was 17-33 in two years leading the Geneva program. A
search for a replacement has begun.
THOMAS MORE HIRES HANS AS NEW HEAD COACH (6/3/11)
Thomas More has announced that Jeff
Hans
has been named the new Thomas More head women's basketball coach.
Hans replaced Brian Neal, who resigned to take an
assistant coach position at Division I Xavier. Hans comes from
Division II Northern Kentucky University, where he was the top
assistant for the past three seasons. He assisted in all areas
of coaching, scouting and recruiting for the Norse. Hans, a 1999
graduate from Wilmington College, helped his teams go a combined
168-67 (.714) in his eight years as an assistant at the
collegiate level.
KATARSKI RESIGNS AS HEAD COACH AT CHATHAM (5/18/11)
Mark Katarski
has resigned as the head women’s basketball coach at Chatham
University to accept a position as an assistant women’s
basketball coach at NCAA Division I Niagara University. A
nationwide search will begin to fill the position. Katarski led
Chatham for six seasons, finishing his tenure with four
consecutive double-digit victory seasons. On two occasions his
teams advanced to the semi-finals of their conference
tournament, including the school’s first PAC playoff victory in
any sport in 2010.
NEAL RESIGNS AS THOMAS MORE HEAD COACH (5/11/11)
Brian Neal
has resigned as the head women's basketball coach at Thomas More
College to accept an assistant women's basketball coach
position at NCAA Division I Xavier University. A nationwide
search for a new coach will begin immediately. Neal leaves
Thomas More as the program's winningest coach with a .847 win
percentage (171-31) over seven seasons. He led his team to
NCAA postseason play in the last five seasons, including Sweet
16 finishes in 2008 and 2011. Neal guided the Saints to six
straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season
titles, five straight PAC Championship titles, six straight
20-win seasons and two undefeated regular seasons in his seven
years in Crestview Hills.

Brittany Sedlock has been named to the
2011 Women’s Basketball All-America Fourth Team by the
D3hoops.com website.
Sedlock, the 2010-11 PAC Player of the Year, was also a First
Team All-Region selection, First Team All-PAC, First Team
Academic All-District, and two-time PAC Player of the Week. She
finished the season second in the PAC in scoring, averaging 16.8
points per game, while she led the league in rebounding,
averaging 9.0 per game.
PAC PLACES FOUR ON ALL-REGION HOOPS TEAMS (3/15/11)
Four PAC basketball standouts have been named to the
2011 All-Great Lakes Region Women's Teams, selected by the
D3Hoops.com
website. 2011 PAC Player of the Year junior forward Brittany
Sedlock of Saint Vincent was a first team honoree. She was
joined by the Thomas More duo of senior center Nicole Dickman
and sophomore guard Chelsea Tolliver on the second team and
Grove City senior forward
Christine Slater on the third team.
TMC OUSTED BY DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS (3/11/11)
The Thomas More women's basketball team
saw its 2010-11 season come to an end in the "Round of 16" of
the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday night, as TMC
dropped a 72-53 home decision to Washington (Mo.) in Crestview
Hills, Ky. The PAC champion
Saints end the 2010-11 season at 30-1 overall after being
eliminated by the defending national champions for the second
consecutive year.
THOMAS MORE TO HOST NCAA D-III SECTIONAL (3/7/11)
Thomas More has been chosen to host the sectional rounds of
the
NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament on
March 11-12, 2011 at the Connor Convocation Center. #15
Greensboro will play#6 Chicago in the first game on Friday
(March 11) at 5 p.m. and top-ranked Thomas More will
play defending NCAA D-III national champion and #12-ranked
Washington (Mo.) in the second game at 7 p.m. The two winners
will then play at a time to be announced on Saturday (March 12)
for the right to advance to the NCAA Division III "Final Four".
WAYNESBURG WINS ECAC D-III SOUTH TITLE (3/6/11)
The
Waynesburg women's basketball team captured the
2011 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament championship
on Sunday following a
67-63 title game win over Catholic at Marisa Fieldhouse.
With the victory, the Jackets of third-year head coach Sam
Jones finished the season 21-9 and become the third ECAC
Women's Basketball champion from the PAC in the past four years
(W&J-2008, SVC-2010).
THOMAS MORE REACHES NCAA "SWEET 16"; WU TO HOST ECAC FINAL; SAINT VINCENT DROPS NCAA
OPENER (3/5/11)
A busy weekend of tournament basketball action has resulted
in two conference teams still alive in postseason play, while
one was eliminated. PAC women's champion and #1-ranked
Thomas More (30-0) advanced to the NCAA D-III Tournament
regional round next week, as the Saints reached the "Sweet 16"
with wins over Piedmont (53-44) on Friday and #14/#16 ranked OAC
champion Mount Union (76-63) on Saturday. TMC will face
defending Division III national champion Washington (Mo.) on
Friday at a site and time TBA. The top-seeded Waynesburg women
(20-9) posted two wins to reach the finals of the ECAC D-III
South Region Tournament Saturday with a
73-59 semifinal victory
against Penn State-Behrend. In other NCAA Tournament action, Saint Vincent fell to Greensboro
83-66
in the opening round on Friday.
PAC AWARDS WINTER SPORTSMANSHIP HONORS (3/3/11)The
Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) has announced the
2010-11 Winter PAC Team
Sportsmanship Award winners. The PAC Team Sportsmanship
Award was started in the 2008-09 sports season, and is an effort
to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among
conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC
Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
WAYNESBURG WINS ECAC D-III SOUTH OPENER (3/3/11)
The top-seeded Waynesburg women's basketball team (19-9)
overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat #8 seed
Moravian
68-62
on Wednesday night in the opening round of the
2011 ECAC Division III Women's Basketball South Region
Tournament. With the victory,
the Yellow Jackets will now host the semifinals and finals
at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse this weekend. WU will face #4 Penn
State-Behrend in one semifinal at 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed
by #2 Catholic facing #6 Alvernia at 6 p.m. The championship
game is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
PAC PLACES PAIR IN D-III TOURNEY: THOMAS MORE TO HOST
PIEDMONT, SVC FACES GREENSBORO (2/28/11)
The PAC
has placed a pair of teams into the NCAA Division III Women's
Basketball Tournament field.
PAC champion and #1-ranked Thomas
More will be at home Friday against Piedmont in a first round
matchup at 7 p.m. If the Saints are victorious, they will host the second
round contest Saturday against the winner of the opening round
contest between Mount Union and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7 p.m. Also,
PAC
runner-up Saint Vincent earned a Pool C at-large bid
and will play Greensboro in the first round at Juniata
College in Huntingdon, Pa., on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The

WAYNESBURG EARNS TOP SEED IN ECAC D-III SOUTH TOURNAMENT; JACKETS
HOST MORAVIAN WED. (2/28/11)
The Waynesburg Yellow Jacket women's basketball program
has earned the top seed and home court advantage for the 2011
ECAC Division III South Tournament. WU (18-9) will host Moravian
(14-12) in an opening round contest at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on
Wednesday (March 2) at 7 p.m. If the Jackets win, they will host the
semifinals and finals in Waynesburg this weekend.
THOMAS MORE WOMEN CAPTURE 2011 PAC TITLE (2/26/11)
February 26 was Championship Saturday
for PAC basketball in 2011, as the Bethany College men and
Thomas More College women each posted victories in the
conference title games. On the women's side, the #1-ranked
Saints (28-0) continued their unbeaten season,
while also becoming the first
basketball program (men or women) in PAC history to capture five
consecutive conference titles, after a
66-55
win over second-seeded and #19-ranked Saint Vincent (24-4). TMC
has now earned an automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division III
Basketball Tournament. |
