W&J TABS FAULK TO LEAD PRESIDENT TEAMS (1/31/12)
Washington & Jefferson has named Chris Faulk as the Presidents' head men's and women's tennis coach.  Faulk, who served as an assistant coach for both teams last year, is a 2010 W&J graduate and a four-year letterwinner for the men's tennis team.  As a senior, Faulk became just the third W&J student-athlete since 1989 to win PAC Player of the Year honors by winning the No. 1 singles flight title.  A Washington, Pa., native, he is also a United States Professional Tennis Registry certified instructor in the Peters Township Tennis Association.

 

BENDEL RETIRES AS SAINT VINCENT COACH (11/21/11)

Saint Vincent women's tennis coach Jim Bendel, who re-started the Bearcat women's tennis program in 2004 following a 13-year hiatus, is retiring as head coach effective Nov. 30. Chris McMahon, who has served as an assistant coach for the program, will take over as Interim Head Coach on December 1.

 

GROVE CITY CAPTURES 25TH CONSECUTIVE LEAGUE TITLE AT THE 2011 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP IN ERIE (10/22/11)
The Grove City Wolverine women's tennis program captured its 25th consecutive conference title at the 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Tennis Championship on Oct. 21-22 at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa. The Wolverine netters of head coach Joe Walters , who earned 2011 PAC Coach of the Year laurels following the match, captured six of the nine flight titles to finish with 48 points, ahead of Westminster (37) and Saint Vincent (30). GCC senior Stacy Moon earned 2011 PAC Player of the year laurels after capturing the first singles flight title. GROVE CITY ON VERGE OF 25TH CONSECUTIVE LEAGUE TITLE AFTER DAY 1 OF 2011 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP (10/19/11)
The Grove City Wolverine women's tennis program posted a maximum-possible point total and is poised to capture its 25th consecutive conference title after the first day of competition at the 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Tennis Championship, taking place this Friday-Saturday, Oct. 21-22 at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa. The Wolverine netters of head coach Joe Walters advanced to the championship finals in all nine flights to finish the first day of competition with a maximum 36 points, ahead of Westminster (30) and Saint Vincent (22). Consolation and championship finals begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. A conference championship preview is now online, as well as the singles and doubles brackets for all nine flights this weekend. PAC TO HOST 2011 CHAMPIONSHIP IN ERIE (10/19/11)

2011 PAC FALL SPORTS PREVIEWS: W. TENNIS (8/26/11)
Today, we look at PAC women's tennis. Perennial league power Grove City will rely upon a deep and talented senior class this season as the Wolverines pursue their 25th straight PAC title. However, GCC will face quality competition from several conference foes including Westminster, who is coming off the three best seasons in team history and finished second in 2010 for a fifth consecutive season. Other challengers include Saint Vincent, who has seven players slated to return, including 2010 PAC MVP Alexis Cup; Chatham, who finished fourth last year and will be under the guidance of a new coaching staff; and Thomas More, who returns five players from last year's squad that finished fifth. Also Geneva, after being approved for NCAA Division III active membership this summer, will be looking to build off three consecutive winning seasons. FOSTER HIRED AS W&J HEAD TENNIS COACH (8/7/11)
Chris Foster has been hired as the new head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Washington & Jefferson.  Since 2004, he has been a tennis professional and instructor with the Upper St. Clair (Pa.) Tennis Development Program.  Foster earned varsity letters at three different NCAA men’s tennis programs, including his final two years at Marist College where he was a national tournament participant.  A 2007 graduate of Upper St. Clair High School, he was the PIAA Doubles Champion during his senior year. 

 

GCC'S BENNETT NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN (6/14/11)
Grove City College junior women's tennis standout Megan Bennett recently earned Capital One Academic All-America College Division At-Large Third Team recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Bennett helped Grove City advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the third straight season in 2010 by leading Grove City (13-4 overall) with 13 singles wins. She won PAC titles at third singles and first doubles last fall, as the Wolverines won the conference title. In the classroom, Bennett owns a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average as a finance major.
 

GROVE CITY TEAMS SET TO OPEN NCAA ACTION (5/10/11)
The PAC champion Grove City men's & women's tennis teams open play in the NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Tennis Championships this week. The Wolverine men face Elizabethtown in a first round match at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., this Friday, while the GCC women face Albion at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., on Thursday.
 

GROVE CITY WOLVERINES CAPTURE 24TH CONSECUTIVE LEAGUE TITLE AT 2010 PAC CHAMPIONSHIPS (10/23/10)
The Grove City Wolverine netters captured individual titles in seven of nine flights Saturday to earn their 24th consecutive team title at the 2010 PAC Women's Tennis Championshps, held at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa. GCC, led by 2010 PAC Coach of the Year Joe Walters, earned 50 of a possible 54 points to easily edge Westminster (34) and Saint Vincent (31) in team competition. With the victory, the Wolverines earned the PAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in the spring of 2011. 2010 PAC Player of the Year honors went to Saint Vincent junior Alexis Cup after she captured the first singles flight championship. GCC IN LEAD AT 2010 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP (10/22/10)
Grove City College advanced to the finals in all nine flights Friday, as the Wolverines closed in on their 24th consecutive conference title at the 2010 PAC Women's Tennis Championship, held at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa.  The Wolverines of head coach Joe Walters finished the first day of competition with a maximum-possible team score of 36 points, comfortably ahead of Westminster (28 points) and Saint Vincent (26). Consolation and championship finals are set to begin Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.. 2010 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP OPENS FRIDAY (10/21/10)
Grove City College opens pursuit of its 24th consecutive conference title this Friday-Saturday, October 22-23 at the 2010 PAC Women's Tennis Championship, held at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa. Play will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. and there is no admission charge. The Wolverines of head coach Joe Walters continued their domination of PAC women's tennis in the regular season, rolling to a 13-2 overall record and perfect 8-0 mark in PAC dual match competition. As a result, GCC players have earned the top seed in eight of the nine singles and doubles flights. Tough competition should come from Westminster, the PAC runner-up each of the past four seasons, as well as Saint Vincent (competing in its first PAC championship) and Chatham. PETTY NAMED PAC SAAC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE (10/20/10)
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) has announced that women's tennis standout Barb Petty of Chatham has been named one of two Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athletes of the Month for October 2010.

2010 PAC PREVIEW: GROVE CITY ROLLS ON (8/30/10)
For 23 years, the Grove City Wolverines have been the standard of excellence in PAC women's tennis, as GCC has captured every conference championship since the 1987 season. The Wolverines show no sign of slowing down, as the 2009 squad became the first team in PAC history to capture an NCAA playoff victory. Westminster, the league runner-up the past four years, is coming off a school-record 15-2 season and will lead the challengers for the PAC crown, which also will include Saint Vincent (first year of active D-III membership) and Thiel (restarting the program after a three-year hiatus). PAC TEAMS HONORED BY ITA FOR ACADEMICS (8/24/10)
Three PAC tennis programs - Grove City, Waynesburg and Westminster - have been named All-Academic Teams for both men and women by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for posting team grade-point averages of 3.2 or higher during the 2009-10 academic year. In addition, 29 PAC men's & women's tennis players (15 women, 14 men) were tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes for recording a GPA of 3.5 or better during the past academic year.

 

HAYS NAMED WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH AT W&J (7/7/10)
Washington & Jefferson has hired 2009 W&J graduate and former President athletic standout Emily Hays as its new head women's tennis coach and assistant women's basketball coach. Hays was the 2009 PAC Player of the Year in women's basketball and ranks 10th in W&J history with 1,147 career points.

 

MEYER NAMED HEAD COACH AT THOMAS MORE (6/23/10)
Ryan Meyer
has been named the new head women's tennis coach at Thomas More. Meyer comes to Thomas More from the University of Cincinnati where he was a volunteer assistant coach for the Bearcats' women's tennis team for the past year.  Before Cincinnati he was an assistant men's and women's tennis coach at his alma mater, Franklin College, from 2007-2009. Meyer is in his fourth year as a staff professional and director of stringing at Five Seasons Sports Club.

 

GROVE CITY GOES 1-1 AT NCAA REGIONAL (5/14/10)
The PAC champion Grove City women's tennis team finished 1-1 at the 2010 NCAA Division III Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill. The Wolverine netters made history on Thursday, as they became the first women's tennis team in PAC history to earn an NCAA Tournament win with a 5-1 victory over Webster University. GCC was then eliminated on Friday following a 5-0 defeat to the host school.

 

DUNFORD REPLACES GANNON AS THIEL COACH (4/13/10)
Thiel has announced the hiring of Tim Dunford as the new head coach of the recently revived Tomcat men's & women's tennis teams. He replaced Andrew Gannon, who was hired to lead the programs two months ago but was recently forced to resign due to health concerns. Dunford comes to Thiel after serving as head tennis professional at Dominion Valley Country Club in Haymarket, Va. since February of 2009.  Concurrently, he also worked as an assistant tennis pro at Burke Racquet & Swim Club in Burke, Va. Prior to his most recent stint as a pro, Dunford spent two years as an assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Mount Olive College, where the men's team rose as high as 30th in the 2007-08 national rankings.

 

GANNON HIRED TO LEAD NEW THIEL PROGRAMS (2/18/10)
Thiel College has hired Andrew Gannon to lead the recently revived Tomcat varsity men's and women's tennis programs. Gannon comes to Thiel from his alma mater, Austin (Tex.) College, where he served as head tennis coach for six years. Thiel recently re-instated both sports, which had been dropped by the school back in 2006.

 

THIEL TO SPONSOR WOMEN'S TENNIS PROGRAM (12/18/09)
Thiel College will add four new athletics programs to its offerings for the 2010-11 school term. Thiel’s new sports will include men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s lacrosse. All four programs will compete at the NCAA Division III level and bring the Tomcats’ total number of athletic teams to 24.

 

FALL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDEES RELEASED (12/10/09)
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) has announced the PAC Team Sportsmanship Award winners for Fall 2009 sports. The PAC Team Sportsmanship Award was started in the 2008-09 sports season, and is an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and is presented to one team in each of the 19 PAC-sponsored varsity sports.

 

GROVE CITY ROLLS TO 23RD CONSECUTIVE TEAM TITLE
AT 2009 PAC TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP IN ERIE (10/24/09)
Grove City College captured individual titles in eight of nine flights and captured its 23rd consecutive league title at the 2009 PAC Women's Tennis Championships, which took place on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 23-24 at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa. The Wolverines of head coach Joe Walters finished with 52 points to easily outdistance second-place Westminster (38), followed by Chatham (20), Waynesburg (13), Thomas More (12) and a sixth-place tie between Bethany and W&J with no score. PAC Player of the Year laurels went to GCC junior Natalie Walten, while Coach of the Year honors went to Chatham mentor Aaron Wilf. The Wolverines receive an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships for the first time in PAC history. The final complete tournament bracket is now online.
