Grove City College Sweeps 2001-02 PAC All-Sports Trophies (4/30/02)

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Grove City College has captured the 2001-02 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) All-Sports Trophies for both men's and women's sports. On the men's side, the Wolverines captured their fifth consecutive PAC All-Sports Trophy, while the Lady Wolveriens have now won the women's All-Sports Trophy seven of the past eight years. The all-sports trophies are awarded to the schools which perform the best across the board in league competition. First-place finishes are worth five points, second place four points, third place three points, and so on.

In men's competition, Grove City used spring titles in baseball, tennis and track & field to springboard ahead of a crowded pack after the winter sports season. The Wolverines posted a total of 33.5 points in the standings, followed by Washington & Jefferson College (30.0), a tie between Bethany College (23.5) and Thiel College (23.5), and Waynesburg College (22.5). GCC finished the year having captured four of the nine team championships awarded.

On the women's side, the Lady Wolverines were in command throughout the year and cemented their win with a track & field title this spring. Grove City finished with 38.0 points in the standings, followed by Washington & Jefferson College (27.0), Bethany College (24.0), Thiel College (21.0) and Waynesburg College (17.0). The Lady Wolverines won titles in five on the nine PAC women's championships.

Westminster College is ineligible for the 2001-02 PAC All-Sports Trophy due to its continuing reclassification from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division III. Westminster is expected to be reclassified as a NCAA Division III member in the summer of 2002.
